Rocket League Championship Series DFS Picks for 4/4/20 - DraftKings Daily Fantasy ESports

Jorge Pucks' DraftKings DFS lineup picks for the Rocket League Championship Series on 4/4/20. He analyzes RLCS slates and top targets for ESports DFS contests.

Welcome, RotoBallers to my first edition of Rocket League DFS picks! I have been covering Counter-Strike: Global Offensive DFS all week here at RotoBaller, but now it's time to switch things up with another fast-paced and exciting ESport!

If you are reading this, you must be missing sports quite a bit but have found solace in DFS ESports! Rocket League is by far the closest thing we have to real sports being played right now. If you have never played or watched Rocket League, it is basically soccer being played but instead of using people, you are using cars! It is a 3v3 game and teams play a best of five series to determine the winner. Each match lasts 5 minutes long and players can rack up points by scoring goals, assists, taking shots, making saves on the net, scoring a hat trick, and becoming the game MVP (highest in-game score on the winning team).

Today I'll be bringing you my Rocket League DFS advice, analysis, and picks for contests on DraftKings at 7:00 PM, April 4th, 2020. Feel free to follow me on Twitter @rdr1634 and hit me up with any questions you might have.

Rocket League - Saturday Night Main Slate (OCE RLCS)

Roster construction for Rocket League contests can be a tad tricky because you have four total spots on your team with two of those being captain spots and two of those being traditional flex spots. Captain spots gain 1.5x fantasy points but also cost a lot more money so constructing your roster starts with the captain spots and building around that.

It is suggested that you at least stack 2 guys from a team that you think will go off. Other builds that can work are:

  • 2-2 (Two stacks from different games)
  • 3-1 (Full-stack with a one-off from a second team)
  • 2-1-1 (Two-man stack with two one-off plays from other games)

Saturday's Games

  • Ground Zero Gaming -102 (4-2) vs Mindfreak -140 (5-1)
  • Renegades -500 (3-3) vs Overt +335 (1-5)
  • Cringe Society -335 (3-3) vs Canberra Havoc +250 (1-5)
  • Fury (4-2) vs Team Esper (3-3) *No odds on this game just yet

This matrix above is here to help assist your lineup building process.

I have collected data on the season so far and ranked each category with the best-ranking team getting the lowest number while the worst ranking team gets the higher number.

I matched it up with their current matchup for this weekend and their total overall number on the far right shows if they are in a good spot or not. The lower the number the better the matchup is for that team while the higher the number, the worse the matchup actually is for that team.

Ground Zero Gaming (4-2) vs Mindfreak (5-1)

Ground Zero comes into this matchup as the top offensive squad in the league. They are averaging above 3.09 goals per game while also averaging 2.41 assists per game as well. GZ takes the second-most shots per game in the league (10.05) while limiting opponents to just eight shots per game. Mindfreak is more of a defensive team as they limit opponents to just six shots per game and limiting opponents to just 1.48 goals per game. This should be one of the more intense games on the slate due to the mixed style of play from both teams.

Ground Zero has the top two goal scorers in the league in Julz and Decka. Julz has 27 goals in 22 games while Decka has 25 goals in 22 games. They also rank third and fourth in the league in total shot attempts so this is a very strong pairing that also costs an arm and leg to use in your lineups. It might be risky but best to fade the top-scoring team due to the matchup that they draw and the overall cost to use them.

Mindfreak averages 2.09 goals per game which is near the middle of the pack of the league and Ground Zero allows two goals per game. Mindfreak takes 7.78 shots per game while Ground Zero allows eight shots per game so this matchup is pretty even for Mindfreak. They do not have the elite scorers and since their scoring is more spread out amongst all three players, it would be tough to truly nail the best combo to use. If you were contemplating using Mindfreak, it might be best to get different and roll out a three-man stack and hope they outscore Ground Zero since they will be pushing the pace with their high shot total.

Renegades (3-3) vs Overt (1-5)

The Renegades are a team to look at for this weekend’s Rocket League slate. Overt is one of the worst defensive teams in the RLCS Oceania league allowing 2.82 goals per game while the Renegades average 2.04 goals per game which is ranked 5th in the league on goals per game. The Renegades also take the most shots per game (11.35 per game) and just like any other sport out there, the more shots equals the more chances/ opportunities. Overt has the worst save percentage in the league (63%) and also allows the 2nd most shots in the league (9.55 per game) so this leads me to think that there could be more chances for this Renegades squad.

CJCJ is one of the core plays for this weekend’s slate. He has 21 goals in 23 games played which ranks fourth overall in the league. He also leads the league in shot attempts with 97 total shots. CJCJ is involved in 44% of all goals for the Renegades and also contributes 36% of the entire team’s score. His two teammates, Kamii and Siki are both in play as they both serve as viable stack partners with CJCJ and even good salary relief if looking to stack another game but still get exposure to the Renegades.

Overt does not have the scoring upside that you would want for Rocket League DFS. They are averaging 1.59 goals per game and the Renegades are only allowing 1.78 goals per game. The scoring for Overt is very spread out as all three players range between 11-13 goals on the season. This is a full fade on Overt as there are better options on this slate.

Cringe Society (3-3) vs Canberra Havoc (1-5)

Just like the Renegades, Cringe Society is in a great spot as well on this slate. They take on Cranberry Havoc who allows the 2nd highest goal total per game (2.68) and also allows the most shots per game in the league (10.32). Cringe Society ranks 3rd in the league in shots per game averaging 8.71 per game,  but the interesting thing is that they only average 1.71 goals per game. With how bad Cranberry Havoc is on the defensive front, the goal potential should be greater than their current league year average of 1.71.

Torsos leads Cringe Society in scoring with 17 goals in 21 games on the year. Torsos ranks 5th in the league with 72 shots attempted and leads the league in MVP medals. Torsos also carries the third-highest goal participation percentage with 77.78% and he averages 1.33 points per game. He is definitely viable as a captain option and his teammates Drippay and Spydoge would be good stacking partners for Torsos. The one downside is that you are relying on assists and save points to rack up since both of them do not have the true upside that Torsos presents.

Canberra Havoc has just struggled to generate any sort of true offense as they average 1.5 goals per game and average 6.68 shots per game which are both league lows. Cringe Society is tied with Mindfreak with allowing a league-low 1.48 goals per game and only allowing opponents to get off 7.62 shots per game. This is a really bad spot for Canberra Havoc and it is best to fade them since the upside just doesn’t seem to be there in this matchup.

Fury (4-2) vs Team Esper (3-3)

This game could provide some fireworks from a DFS perspective. Both teams sit in the middle of the rankings and could be a big-time game that could have an impact on both teams later on in the season. From a statistical standpoint, these teams are extremely close with Esper averaging 2.10 goals per game and Fury averaging 2.09 goals per game. Fury has limited opponents a tad better to just 1.86 goals per game while Esper allows opponents to score 2.14 goals per game. Both teams allow over nine shots per game while both teams take over seven shots per game as well. This seems like it could be a very tight contest and one that goes all five games which means more opportunities to rack up DFS points.

Amphis is the main scorer for this Fury team with 1.05 goals per game and he is tied for the highest rating in the league with Decka. He averages over three shots per game and is responsible for half of the team's goals so far. With how competitive this game can be, Amphis looks to be one of the better options on the slate. Kenny Salmon leads the leagues in saves and leads Fury in assists so he would be a good pairing option with Amphis.

Esper is extremely spread out when it comes to their scoring. Frenzyy and SSteve both have 16 goals on the season and everyone on their team averages over 1.2 points per game. The defense for Fury is quite tough so the upside of Esper looks to be limited a bit. This is another team that should be faded but if you were wanting to get different and look for low ownership, you could look for the upset and three-man stack this team in hopes that they deliver a nice performance against a good quality opponent in Fury.
