BALLER MOVE: Target Around ~112 Overall
CURRENT ADP: ~132
ANALYSIS: Anderson showed in 2019 that he was more than a home run threat who could only run fly patterns. He improved his all-around game and proved that he could run underneath routes and make crucial catches in big spots on third down.
While this did not translate into additional receptions, yards, and touchdowns (he logged a 50/752/6 line in 2018 and a very similar 779/52/5 in 2019) it was through no fault of his own. The New York Jets quarterback situation was a fiasco during the first half of the season when quarterback Sam Darnold came down with mono and the Jets had third-stringer Luke Falk throwing to Anderson for three contests.
Anderson has now taken his talents to Carolina, and while the Panthers do not feature a much better option at the starting QB position (they signed Teddy Bridgewater this offseason) he should still be better than Darnold was last year. Anderson will be part of an offense that has established players in Christian McCaffrey, D.J. Moore, and Curtis Samuel. That could mean trouble for any other player, but chances are Anderson comes back to his deep-route usage and finds a target-market there.
Robby should also be aided by head coach Matt Rhule, who coached him in college. Anderson’s numbers in Carolina should not be much different from what they were in New York. That shouldn't be seen as a negative, though. Anderson has played to a FLEX level in his last two seasons and finished as the WR18 back in 2017. With an ADP of WR50 these days, the most probable 2020 outcome is for Anderson to outperform that price and become a more valuable play down the road with upside to establish himself as a WR3 in fantasy leagues and big-play prowess.
