ANALYSIS: Former first-round pick Quentin Johnston has flashed upside at times, but has been tough to trust in fantasy due to inconsistent performances. However, the wideout enjoyed an impressive start to the 2025 season and could be in store for a breakout campaign.
Facing the Kansas City Chiefs, Johnston led the way in their victory as he caught five of his seven targets for 79 yards and two touchdowns. His 79 yards led all Los Angeles pass catchers. However, his seven targets were fewer than both Ladd McConkey and Keenan Allen.
In this game, the Chargers leaned heavily on the passing attack as Justin Herbert threw the ball 34 times and only handed the ball to running backs Omarion Hampton (15) and Najee Harris (1) 16 combined times.
While Johnston showed promise in this game, managers should not blow their FAAB budget on the TCU product, as he still serves as the No. 3 option in the pass attack and in a run-first offense. As the rookie running back Hampton settles into the offense, the Chargers will likely lean on him as they did with J.K. Dobbins last season.
The 24-year-old is a strong waiver wire target in 3WR formats, and has the upside to be added in 10+ team leagues, but also has the potential to disappoint given that he faces tough competition for targets. He projects to be a risky flex option in Week 2 facing the Las Vegas Raiders. He will need the Chargers to prioritize their passing game this season to produce consistently.
