Philadelphia Eagles running back Will Shipley, selected by the team in the later rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft, will be the clear backup to lead RB Saquon Barkley. Barkley just rushed for over 2,000 yards in 2024, and was one of the league's clear best running backs last year. That's not about to change, as Barkley is still well within his prime years. If Barkley were to get hurt, Shipley could put up nice numbers and be fantasy relevant, but it's worth questioning how much of a role the bowling-ball-built AJ Dillon would have, at least in short-yardage situations and at the goal line. It's a bit murky in the Eagles backfield behind Barkley as a result. Shipley only has value as a handcuff, but even if the RB1 were to miss time, we could see a committee develop between Dillon an Shipley, which would greatly dilute their production projections and fantasy football value. It might be better to look elsewhere for late-round, high-upside handcuff backs in fantasy.--John Johnson
