Vikings Zone Scheme A Perfect Fit For Dalvin Cook
5 years agoMinnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook's combination of speed, quickness, balance and vision as a one-cut runner fits perfectly in the team's outside-zone scheme. Cook had 25 runs of 10-plus yards in an offense that had the fourth-most rushing attempts in the league in 2019. Quarterback Kirk Cousins had a 71 percent completion rate and a 16:1 TD-to-interception ratio with an average of 8.5 yards per attempt with Cook on the field, per Next Gen Stats. Without Cook on the field, Cousins had a 66 percent completion rate, 10:5 TD-INT ratio and average of 7.3 yards per attempt. However, Cook has played in only 31 of 50 games in his three seasons due to injury, which will make the Vikings hesitant to cave into his contract demands. Minnesota can use the franchise tag to keep him around in 2021, and if he chooses to hold out for the start of training camp, Cook would give up his chance to reach unrestricted free agency in 2021.
