Steven Matz Receives Another Injection
3 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Steven Matz (shoulder) needed a second injection in his injured left shoulder, according to president of baseball operations John Mozeliak. Matz has been out since May 22 with a left shoulder impingement, but an MRI exam showed no structural damage in his shoulder. He received his first injection on May 23. It's disappointing after the 31-year-old southpaw felt really good after throwing off flat ground on Sunday. He still needs to get back on a mound, face live hitters and go on a minor league rehab assignment, so Matz's return to the rotation is still a ways off. Matz was struggling before landing on the injured list, posting a 6.03 ERA and 1.39 WHIP while striking out 44 and walking just eight in 37 1/3 innings over his nine starts.
