Salvador Perez Dealing With Foot Injury
1 year agoKansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez (foot) was out of Monday's starting lineup against the Minnesota Twins after getting hit on the foot by a pitch in Sunday's series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Manager Matt Quatraro said Perez could have been the designated hitter on Monday, but the team wanted to be cautious. He'll be available off the bench on Monday and could return to the lineup as early as Tuesday. Freddy Fermin got the start behind the plate for the Royals against Twins right-hander Joe Ryan. The 33-year-old Perez could probably use a bit of a rest, though, as he has just two hits in his last 27 at-bats with nine strikeouts in seven games. Despite the recent cold stretch, Perez has 15 long balls on the year and remains one of the better offensive backstops in baseball.
