Saints Release Emmanuel Sanders; Kwon Alexander Next?
4 years agoThe New Orleans Saints released wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders on Wednesday, according to a source informed of the decision. The Saints are also expected to release linebacker Kwon Alexander in the coming days. Sanders' release will save the salary cap-needy Saints more than $19 million. Alexander's release wouldn't include any dead money, but Sanders will account for $4 million in dead-cap space. The soon-to-be 34-year-old wideout can still contribute to an offense after recording 61 receptions for 726 yards and five touchdowns in 14 games (five starts) for New Orleans in 2020, but it will also depend on where he lands in free agency. The two-time Pro Bowler started his career in Pittsburgh but had his best days in Denver with Peyton Manning, where he spent six seasons. Alexander is still recovering from a torn Achilles that limited him to 12 games last year, but he's expected to be ready for training camp.
