Ryan Blaney's Solid Day At Michigan Ends In Disappointment
4 months agoTeam Penske driver Ryan Blaney placed 18th in this weekend's FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway. Starting from the eighth position on Sunday, Blaney maintained a top-10 running position through the first stage until the race's first caution for an incident on lap 39. While other drivers went to pit road, Blaney stayed out, restarted from the lead, and held off the field to win the first stage. After the race was delayed due to rain, the second stage began on Monday, where Blaney went to pit road and stayed out of trouble. The No. 12 Ford driver eventually inherited the lead again and led 15 more laps before a green flag pit stop and caught up to 10th by the end of the second stage. In the third stage, Blaney avoided multiple accidents and pit road issues, returning to the Top 10 by the final restart. While fighting for fifth with Chase Elliott, Blaney and Elliott made contact, and although they didn't crash, they both lost track position. Blaney ended the race with his first finish outside of the Top 10 at Michigan since the second event at the site in 2020. With the Cup Series next visiting Daytona, Blaney is one to watch as he led in the last three Cup events there.
