Robert Tonyan Was Incredibly Efficient In 2020
4 years agoGreen Bay Packers tight end Robert Tonyan caught 52 passes on 59 targets last season, posting the highest catch-rate difference among all pass-catchers by a wide margin. Tonyan's 16.7 percent difference was the best in 2020 and the second-best in the history of the Next Gen Stats era, dating back to the start of 2016. He generated 4.2 yards of separation per target, the second-most of any player since 2016, which helped him post a league-leading six receiving touchdowns and a +12.8 percent catch rate over expectation when aligned tight. As a result, Tonyan tied Travis Kelce with 11 scores last season. However, he had just 11 red-zone targets, which means fantasy managers shouldn't bank on another great season from the tight end in 2021, especially if quarterback Aaron Rodgers leaves town or retires. If Rodgers returns, Tonyan will be a borderline top-10, touchdown-dependent fantasy tight end.
