Reds Agree With Shogo Akiyama
5 years agoThe Cincinnati Reds agreed to a three-year deal with Japanese outfielder Shogo Akiyama on Monday. The deal is believed to be for around $15 million. The 31-year-old has hit over .300 with an on-base percentage above .390 with 20-plus home runs in each of the last three years in Japan. The Cubs and Padres were also in the running for his services. In Cincinnati, Akiyama should play a corner outfield spot and hit near the top of the order in a good hitting environment. A 30-year-old unproven commodity won't be all that attractive in mixed fantasy leagues in 2020, but Akiyama should at least be able to contribute useful on-base numbers and runs scored in deeper leagues.
