Red Sox Getting Alex Verdugo, Brusdar Graterol
5 years agoThe Boston Red Sox are acquiring outfielder Alex Verdugo and pitching prospect Brusdar Graterol in exchange for outfielder Mookie Betts and starting pitcher David Price in a three-team blockbuster trade involving the Dodgers and Twins, according to sources. With Betts now out of Beantown, Verdugo will join Jackie Bradley Jr. and Andrew Benintendi in the team's regular outfield rotation. The 23-year-old left-handed hitter had a sterling .294/.342/.475 slash line with 12 home runs and 44 RBI in 343 at-bats in 2019 before getting injured in August and missing the rest of the season. He has an incredibly high fantasy ceiling with the move to Boston with regular playing time, and he won't come cheap in drafts. Graterol was rated by MLB Pipeline as Minnesota's No. 3 prospect and No. 53 in baseball. The 21-year-old right-hander struggled in 10 relief outings with the Twins (4.66 ERA), but had a 1.92 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 9.0 K/9 in 11 starts and seven relief appearances at three minor league levels last season. He has the potential to be a front-line starter in a few seasons in the big leagues if he continues to improve upon his command.
