The Texas Rangers announced on Tuesday that they agreed to terms with free-agent infielder Nick Ahmed and outfielder Sam Haggerty (Achilles) on minor-league deals that include invites to big-league spring training. The 34-year-old Ahmed has a career .234/.287/.371 slash line with a .657 OPS, 72 home runs and 339 RBI in 959 games in 11 MLB seasons with the Diamondbacks, Giants, Dodgers and Padres. Haggerty, 30, has a career .232/.312/.351 slash line with a .663 OPS, nine home runs, 40 RBI and 33 steals in 202 games over six seasons with the Mets and Mariners. Ahmed is mostly useful for his glove and defense and will provide valuable middle-infield insurance behind shortstop Corey Seager and second baseman Marcus Semien in 2025. Haggerty could be limited to start spring training after having surgery last May to fix a torn right Achilles.--Keith Hernandez
