The Pittsburgh Pirates designated left-hander Andrew Heaney for assignment on Tuesday after he gave up five earned runs in two-thirds of an inning pitched on Monday against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Pirates demoted Heaney to the bullpen earlier in August after a rough stretch in late June and July. On June 12, Heaney had a 3.33 ERA through 14 starts and was putting together a nice season. However, he proceeded to allow seven earned runs against the Detroit Tigers and Milwaukee Brewers in back-to-back outings, and that's where things started to fall apart for him. Heaney's season ERA now sits at 5.39, and a team may pick him up once he goes through waivers. But for now, fantasy managers will want to look elsewhere for production.--Nicho Roessler
