Phillies Not Looking To Trade Zack Wheeler
4 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies managing general partner John Middleton said that the team isn't looking to trade starting pitcher Zack Wheeler. "If they offered me Babe Ruth, I wouldn't trade him," Middleton said angrily in a phone conversation, adding Ted Williams and Mike Schmidt to Ruth's name for good measure. Middleton said there is no truth to rumors that the Phillies have reached out to other teams saying they are open to offers for Wheeler while they face tough financial decisions. Wheeler is the team's second highest-paid player behind outfielder Bryce Harper and is one year into the five-year, $118 million deal he signed last winter. The 30-year-old right-hander had a nice 2.92 ERA in 11 starts in the shortened 2020 season.
