Patriots Decline Sony Michel's Option, Pick Up Isaiah Wynn's
4 years agoThe New England Patriots picked up the fifth-year option for the 2022 season on offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn on Monday. On the flip side, they declined the fifth-year option for running back Sony Michel. Michel was the 31st overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft and would've made $4.523 million in 2022 had his option been picked up. He'll have a base salary of $1.79 million this year. He had 2,292 yards rushing on 535 carries and 14 touchdowns in his three seasons with the Pats, but he played in just nine games (six starts) due to injury in 2020 and rushed for only 449 yards and one score. Michel was barely used in the passing game as well. He'll return to a backfield committee with James White, Damien Harris and rookie Rhamondre Stevenson this year. Wynn was the No. 23 overall pick in 2018 and will make $10.413 million in 2022.
