Panthers Won't Be Big Spenders In Free Agency
4 years agoCarolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule and general manager Scott Fitterer both don't plan on being big spenders when free agency kicks off next week. "We're not just one player away," Rhule said. "We're in a situation where we have to keep building our team. Like I said earlier with the cap situation, we have to be really targeted." Fitterer thinks that bargains could be had in free agency because of the lowered salary cap, so the Panthers could wait and be patient. "Even though we've created a lot of cap room, this is not a year we're going to go wild spending money. We're going to be very judicious in how we go about this," Fitterer said. The Panthers were around $30 million under the salary cap before franchise tagging right tackle Taylor Moton, but they also freed up some more space on Wednesday by restructuring Christian McCaffrey and Shaq Thompson.
