Panthers To Decide On Sam Darnold's Option After Draft
4 years agoCarolina Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer said on Friday that a decision on whether to exercise quarterback Sam Darnold's $18.858 million fifth-year option for the 2022 season won't come until after the draft next week. The Panthers want to see if a quarterback falls to them at No. 8 overall in the first round next Thursday before committing to Darnold for more than one season. "There's actually several of them that we're excited about," Fitterer said. "But we're not going to get into exactly who." Either way, Darnold will be Carolina's starter in 2021, and he'll have a chance to make much more noise with a better supporting cast than he ever had in his time with the New York Jets. Still, fantasy managers want to see improvement before utilizing him as anything more than a low-end QB2.
