Cameron Young Looking For Redemption and Possible First Career Victory in Detroit
Source: PGA Tour
Coming off the emotional week at Oakmont, it wasn't surprising to see Cameron Young take a backseat last week in Connecticut. The 28-year-old finished T52, and aside from averaging +1.07 strokes putting, was lackluster in all other aspects. He now sets his sights on this week's Rocket Classic, where he's recorded T6 and T2 finishes in two previous appearances. His distance off the tee certainly plays well here, with missing fairways not being as penal as TPC River Highlands. However, putting is where the longball-hitter really shines, ranking 9th on the season in strokes gained putting (+0.573). At $11,500 on FanDuel, the Detroit Golf Club seems tailor-made for someone like Young to capture a first victory. Play him with confidence.Collin Morikawa is The Headliner This Week in Detroit For Good Reason
Source: PGA Tour
With a field starving for the PGA Tour's top dogs, giving the favorite nod to Collin Morikawa for this week's Rocket Classic is an easy choice. He's the fifth-ranked player in the world, and easily the most feared competitor on the board. However, he's already laid down strong familiarity here, finishing T2 in 2023 after losing in a playoff to the eventual winner, Rickie Fowler. He can't bomb and gouge this place like others can, but being arguably the most accurate ball striker throughout the bag easily makes up for it. The flat stick creates the most concern, ranking 109th this season on the greens (-0.074). The caveat to that is his season-long average is a bit skewed after losing over eight strokes putting at the U.S. Open. At $12,000 on FanDuel, Morikawa is as safe as it gets this week for DFS.Si Woo Kim Back in Competition After Last Week's Withdrawal
Source: PGA Tour
It's a quick turnaround for Si Woo Kim, who withdrew during Friday's round at the Travelers with a back injury. He was eight over par for the tournament at the time. The South Korean is making the start this week in Detroit for the Rocket Classic, where he finished T14 in 2022. From tee to green, Kim does everything you need to for success around the Detroit Golf Club–other than being long off the tee. However, his accuracy ranks 26th on the PGA Tour (65.13%). The putter is a large concern, ranking 134th in strokes gained putting (-0.192). And averaging -3.74 strokes on the greens through 30 holes like he did last week at TPC River Highlands would make anyone's back hurt. At $11,100 on FanDuel, the 29-year-old is too expensive given the uncertainty around his health and current feel with the flat stick.Alex Noren Finishes Tied For 30th at Travelers Championship
Source: Data Golf
Alex Noren finished T30 at last week’s Travelers Championship and will now focus on preparing for this week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic at Detroit Golf Club in Detroit, Michigan. Over the past 12 months, Noren ranks in the 57th percentile in proximity to the hole on approach shots from 100-150 yards in the fairway. This is important because at last year’s Rocket Mortgage Classic over 29% of approach shots came from this distance.Kurt Kitayama Misses The Cut at RBC Canadian Open

Over the past 12 months, Kitayama ranks in the 82nd percentile in proximity to the hole on approach shots from 100-150 yards in the fairway. Over the past 12 months, Ghim ranks in the 93rd percentile in proximity to the hole on approach shots from 100-150 yards in the fairway. Cantlay has eight top-15 finishes and missed the cut twice in 14 starts this season. Over the past 12 months, Cantlay ranks in the 84th percentile in proximity to the hole on approach shots from 100-150 yards in the fairway. This is important because at last year’s Rocket Mortgage Classic over 29% of approach shots came from this distance.Max Homa Still on the Search For Consistency at Rocket Classic
Source: Data Golf
The grind continues for Max Homa, who is still looking for the missing link in his golf game following a T54 finish last week at the Travelers. Ball striking is still the glaring issue, as he ranks 164th in strokes gained tee to green (-1.152). It's a problem that only seems to fix itself for one to two weeks before reverting, and rarely has it translated throughout the entire golf bag. The Detroit Golf Club has been fairly kind to the 34-year-old, as he's managed to finish inside the top 25 here each of the last three years. Given the flat stick is the only thing in the bag even remotely cooperating (+0578 strokes gained putting average over last seven starts), that doesn't seem like enough to justify taking the chance on the former Cal-Berkeley golfer.Ryan Gerard Has a Leaky Putter That Makes Him Hard to Trust at Rocket Classic
Source: Data Golf
From a tee to green perspective, Ryan Gerard is playing well enough to warrant weekly starts almost without a second thought. He hasn't lost strokes in any of the three metrics that make up the tee to green statistic in his last six events. However, the putter has gone completely cold, averaging -0.746 strokes gained on the greens over that same span. That won't do him any good at the Detroit Golf Club, where putting is the leading correlation to success over the previous six years. His length off the tee also doesn't track what has worked here in the past. At $9,800 on FanDuel, Gerard is priced a bit high for what he's produced in recent weeks since his top 10 at the PGA Championship.Quade Cummins an Interesting Dart Throw at Rocket Classic
Source: PGA Tour
With his absence from last week's Signature Event, Quade Cummins dropped back to play in Kansas on the Korn Ferry Tour and hopefully gain some confidence before the back half of the season. Luckily, he may have done that with a T4 finish. He returns to the strength of the PGA Tour, looking to keep the momentum going. Detroit Golf Club doesn't leave much to the imagination from tee to green, but putting surfaces require close attention; perfect for the guy who ranks 14th in strokes gained putting (+0.498) on the season, like Cummins does. The 29-year-old is long and accurate enough off the tee, but what he does on approach and around the greens is the biggest question mark. For someone as far down the list of this weaker field as he is at $8,100 on FanDuel, there is enough to like here that's worth taking a shot on.Luke Clanton Possesses Strong Potential at Detroit Golf Club
Source: PGA Tour
It was a ho-hum week in Cromwell for Luke Clanton, who finished T34 after posting rounds of 67-72-68-70. It was just his second event since turning professional at the beginning of the month, so he's still adjusting to the lifestyle change from a college athlete to a professional one. He comes to this week's Rocket Classic with knowledge of his T10 at this event last summer, which had him in the thick of things until the final day. On paper, the former Seminole fits the mold for being able to bomb and gouge their way around. The 21-year-old is consistently over 310 yards off the tee and has established a 4.53 par-5 scoring average. If the putting and short game don't kill him, he is a fine DFS play.
