Calgary Flames center Mikael Backlund has signed a two-year, $6.5 million contract extension. His current deal was set to expire in 2026. Backlund has spent his entire 17-year NHL career in Calgary, becoming the team captain in 2023. He has put up 563 points (215 goals, 348 assists) in 1,066 career games. During the last campaign, Backlund contributed 15 goals and 17 assists in 76 appearances. Backlund has been a consistent performer for the Flames for many years, but in recent seasons, he hasn't been productive enough to make a significant impact in fantasy hockey.--Taavi Pailk
