12 hours agoSan Francisco Giants first baseman LaMonte Wade Jr. (hamstring) started throwing and hitting activities over the past couple days during his rehab in Arizona. The Giants' lefty injured his hamstring in a hard slide against the Phillies on May 27th and was expected to miss at least four weeks, putting him out until at least the last week of June. Wade Jr. was having a phenomenal season, hitting for a 167 OPS+ with 17 RBI and 22 runs scored. The Giants have gone 2-6 without Wade Jr. active and will need to find a way to replace his offensive production. Fantasy managers should target Wilmer Flores and Trenton Brooks while Wade Jr. continues to recover.Source: Shayna Rubin
13 hours agoSan Francisco Giants starting pitcher Blake Snell (groin) is continuing his rehab in Arizona and threw at 75 feet on Thursday. He will continue to throw on flat ground over the weekend. The lefty has had a disastrous start to his season after signing a five year, $135 million contract in the offseason. His 9.51 ERA and 1.944 WHIP are certainly not what he and the Giants had in mind when they brought him on. Snell is eligible to return from the IL on June 18th but there's no guarantee that he will be rejoining the Giants rotation at that time. Given his tumultuous start the Giants may have him take his time to get right before returning. Fantasy managers should be patient for Snell's return. In Snell's absence, the Giants will look to continue starting Mason Black (8.79 ERA) or take a bullpen approach.Source: Shayna Rubin

13 hours agoThe Toronto Blue Jays announced on Friday that they have designated second baseman Cavan Biggio for assignment. First baseman Spencer Horwitz was called up in his place and is active for Friday's game against the Oakland A's. Biggio saw a significant decrease in playing time in May, logging just 40 PA in the month compared to 88 in March and April. At just a .614 OPS, and the Blue Jays looking for an offensive spark, Biggio became expendable. Horwitz made his debut with Toronto in 2023, going 10-39 with a HR and seven RBI in his limited time. Fantasy managers looking to replace Biggio on their bench with Horwitz should consider it a flyer with playing time being a major question mark.Source: Toronto Blue Jays
13 hours agoHouston Astros outfielder Kyle Tucker was placed on the 10-day injured list on Friday with a right shin contusion, retroactive to June 4th. Tucker fouled a ball off his leg in Monday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals and was removed shortly after. The lefty was having an MVP caliber season before the injury, hitting for a .979 OPS. With just a contusion it appears he avoided any major damage. With the Astros having a subpar season, Tucker is also likely to be the subject of many potential trade ideas around the league with ESPN's Jeff Passan already listing the Phillies as a team that would be interested in the 27-year-old. Fantasy managers should keep their eyes on Trey Cabbage and Mauricio Dubon to pick up the extra playing time while Tucker's on the IL.Source: Julia Morales
15 hours agoSeattle Mariners catching prospect Harry Ford has responded quite well after struggling through the opening month of the campaign at Double-A. Since the start of May, the former 12th overall pick is riding a .277/.391/.420 line with two home runs, 13 RBI, and an eye-catching 11 stolen bases. He has 15 swiped bags through the entire season. Last summer, at High-A, the 21-year-old stole 24 bases and hit 15 long balls. It is very promising to see Ford continue to showcase his elite power and speed, especially after struggling through his first month at Double-A. MLB Pipeline ranks Ford as the number 27 overall prospect in baseball and fourth among catchers. He should be expected to make his major league debut next summer and should be rostered in all keeper and dynasty leagues.Source: MiLB.com
15 hours agoSan Diego Padres catching prospect Ethan Salas has slowly begun to put his slow start behind him. In his past 16 games, the 18-year-old has tallied 15 hits, four doubles, one home run, 10 RBI, two stolen bases, and a 9:11 BB:K ratio. In this span, he is currently holding a .246/.338/.393 line. Before this stretch, the top-catching prospect was hitting for a .171/.282/.234 line. Last season, Salas spent the majority of the season with Single-A but did get a taste of High-A and even Double-A. However, with his rough start to the season, Salas should be expected to remain at High-A for the foreseeable future and may only join Double-A in the second half of the season. Salas is ranked as the number five overall prospect in baseball on MLB Pipeline and will be one of the most valuable catchers in dynasty leagues for years to come.Source: MiLB.com
15 hours agoBaltimore Orioles catching prospect Samuel Basallo put his rough April behind him with an excellent May performance that has already carried into the early part of June. Through May, the young backstop posted a .297/.373/.418 line with three home runs and is currently holding a .316/.381/.686 line with two home runs through June. This is a significant improvement over his April line of .262/.276/.440. In addition, Basallo has only gone hitless twice in his past 18 games. MLB Pipeline ranks 19-year-old as the number 13 prospect in all of baseball and second among catchers. He currently has logged only 54 total games at the Double-A level, so he should not be expected to reach the majors this summer. However, he is a valuable piece in dynasty leagues and will be a popular target in redraft leagues next summer.Source: MiLB.com
15 hours agoDetroit Tigers infield prospect Jace Jung launched his ninth home run of the season on Thursday and has continued his strong debut season at Triple-A. Through 53 games, the 23-year-old holds a solid .276/.389/.505 line with 37 RBI, one stolen base, and a 37:58 BB:K ratio. In his past nine games, he has only gone hitless twice and is currently riding a .313 AVG. His production this season is very similar to his .284/.373/.563 line he held through 47 games at Double-A last summer which is a great sign. Jung has not hit any roadblocks in his final stop in the minors and is fast approaching his major league debut. He should remain rostered in all dynasty and keeper leagues and could become a popular stash candidate in redraft leagues later in the summer.Source: MiLB.com
16 hours agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Robert Gasser (elbow) will get a third opinion after Dr. Neal ElAttrache suggested surgery. The first opinion suggested rest and rehab, while ElAttrache said surgery would be the best route. Gasser obviously wants to return this season and contribute in some way, so we'll see what the third opinion says. It sounds like Gasser certainly does have damage to his elbow, so it's hard to imagine him returning anytime soon.Source: Curt Hogg
16 hours agoChicago White Sox third base/outfield prospect Wilfred Veras launched two home runs on three hits on Thursday. Over his past 11 games, Veras has posted a solid .262/.333/.452 line. Overall, through 47 games in his second look at Double-A this season, the 21-year-old has held a .290/.322/.468 line with seven home runs, 23 RBI, and six stolen bases. Veras spent 38 games last summer with Double-A and held a similar .309/.346/.533 line. The young outfielder has proven over an extended stretch that he is more than capable of moving up to Triple-A. He remains a name to monitor in dynasty leagues, as he could become an interesting stash candidate if he carries this success over to Triple-A Charlotte. If he does, he has a good chance of making his major league debut toward the end of the season.Source: MiLB.com
16 hours agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher DL Hall (knee) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Saturday. The left-hander recently got a second opinion on his knee issue, which suggested he should get a PRP injection. Instead, Hall will go with the first option and plans to throw on Saturday. He has been sidelined since late-April and it's uncertain when he'll be able to get back on the mound.Source: Curt Hogg
16 hours agoDetroit Tigers starting pitcher Kenta Maeda (side) was seen throwing long toss prior to Friday's game. The 36-year-old was pulled from Wednesday's start due to abdominal discomfort in his side. Maeda hasn't been placed on the injured list yet and is hopeful to make his next start. The fact Maeda was able to throw is a good sign, but there is still more work to do before being cleared to pitch again.Source: Evan Petzold
16 hours agoWashington Nationals starting pitcher Josiah Gray (elbow) is set to throw his first rehab start on Sunday for low-A Frederickburg. The right-hander has finally progressed to throwing in live games after missing the last two months due to a flexor strain in his elbow. The plan is for Gray to throw 50-55 pitches during his first rehab start. If that goes well, Gray would likely head to Double-A Harrisburg for his next start. Fantasy managers are going to have to wait a few more weeks before getting Gray back into their starting rotations.Source: Bobby Blanco
16 hours agoBaltimore Orioles starting pitcher Kyle Bradish is scheduled to take the ball for Saturday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. The right-hander was supposed to start on Friday, but was pushed back a day for extra rest. O's manager Brandon Hyde said there are no health concerns for Bradish. This looks like a case of the Orioles just being cautious with Bradish who is coming off an elbow injury. Fantasy managers should prepare to have Bradish back on the mound for Saturday's game.Source: Rich Dubroff
