Jake Merklinger Leaving Tennessee for Transfer Portal
Tennessee quarterback Jake Merklinger is entering the transfer portal, according to On3's Hayes Fawcett and Pete Nakos. Merklinger just completed his redshirt freshman season and has three years of eligibility remaining. The Georgia native appeared in six games over the last two seasons, completing just under 58% of his passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns. Merklinger was beaten out by transfer quarterback Joey Aguilar for the QB1 job in Knoxville following the departure of Nico Iamaleava, and if he stayed at Tennessee, he'd likely be behind big-time quarterback recruits George MacIntyre and Faizon Brandon in 2026.
