8 hours agoSan Diego Padres catching prospect Ethan Salas has slowly begun to put his slow start behind him. In his past 16 games, the 18-year-old has tallied 15 hits, four doubles, one home run, 10 RBI, two stolen bases, and a 9:11 BB:K ratio. In this span, he is currently holding a .246/.338/.393 line. Before this stretch, the top-catching prospect was hitting for a .171/.282/.234 line. Last season, Salas spent the majority of the season with Single-A but did get a taste of High-A and even Double-A. However, with his rough start to the season, Salas should be expected to remain at High-A for the foreseeable future and may only join Double-A in the second half of the season. Salas is ranked as the number five overall prospect in baseball on MLB Pipeline and will be one of the most valuable catchers in dynasty leagues for years to come.Source: MiLB.com
8 hours agoBaltimore Orioles catching prospect Samuel Basallo put his rough April behind him with an excellent May performance that has already carried into the early part of June. Through May, the young backstop posted a .297/.373/.418 line with three home runs and is currently holding a .316/.381/.686 line with two home runs through June. This is a significant improvement over his April line of .262/.276/.440. In addition, Basallo has only gone hitless twice in his past 18 games. MLB Pipeline ranks 19-year-old as the number 13 prospect in all of baseball and second among catchers. He currently has logged only 54 total games at the Double-A level, so he should not be expected to reach the majors this summer. However, he is a valuable piece in dynasty leagues and will be a popular target in redraft leagues next summer.Source: MiLB.com
8 hours agoDetroit Tigers infield prospect Jace Jung launched his ninth home run of the season on Thursday and has continued his strong debut season at Triple-A. Through 53 games, the 23-year-old holds a solid .276/.389/.505 line with 37 RBI, one stolen base, and a 37:58 BB:K ratio. In his past nine games, he has only gone hitless twice and is currently riding a .313 AVG. His production this season is very similar to his .284/.373/.563 line he held through 47 games at Double-A last summer which is a great sign. Jung has not hit any roadblocks in his final stop in the minors and is fast approaching his major league debut. He should remain rostered in all dynasty and keeper leagues and could become a popular stash candidate in redraft leagues later in the summer.Source: MiLB.com
8 hours agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Robert Gasser (elbow) will get a third opinion after Dr. Neal ElAttrache suggested surgery. The first opinion suggested rest and rehab, while ElAttrache said surgery would be the best route. Gasser obviously wants to return this season and contribute in some way, so we'll see what the third opinion says. It sounds like Gasser certainly does have damage to his elbow, so it's hard to imagine him returning anytime soon.Source: Curt Hogg
8 hours agoChicago White Sox third base/outfield prospect Wilfred Veras launched two home runs on three hits on Thursday. Over his past 11 games, Veras has posted a solid .262/.333/.452 line. Overall, through 47 games in his second look at Double-A this season, the 21-year-old has held a .290/.322/.468 line with seven home runs, 23 RBI, and six stolen bases. Veras spent 38 games last summer with Double-A and held a similar .309/.346/.533 line. The young outfielder has proven over an extended stretch that he is more than capable of moving up to Triple-A. He remains a name to monitor in dynasty leagues, as he could become an interesting stash candidate if he carries this success over to Triple-A Charlotte. If he does, he has a good chance of making his major league debut toward the end of the season.Source: MiLB.com
8 hours agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher DL Hall (knee) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Saturday. The left-hander recently got a second opinion on his knee issue, which suggested he should get a PRP injection. Instead, Hall will go with the first option and plans to throw on Saturday. He has been sidelined since late-April and it's uncertain when he'll be able to get back on the mound.Source: Curt Hogg
9 hours agoDetroit Tigers starting pitcher Kenta Maeda (side) was seen throwing long toss prior to Friday's game. The 36-year-old was pulled from Wednesday's start due to abdominal discomfort in his side. Maeda hasn't been placed on the injured list yet and is hopeful to make his next start. The fact Maeda was able to throw is a good sign, but there is still more work to do before being cleared to pitch again.Source: Evan Petzold
9 hours agoWashington Nationals starting pitcher Josiah Gray (elbow) is set to throw his first rehab start on Sunday for low-A Frederickburg. The right-hander has finally progressed to throwing in live games after missing the last two months due to a flexor strain in his elbow. The plan is for Gray to throw 50-55 pitches during his first rehab start. If that goes well, Gray would likely head to Double-A Harrisburg for his next start. Fantasy managers are going to have to wait a few more weeks before getting Gray back into their starting rotations.Source: Bobby Blanco
9 hours agoBaltimore Orioles starting pitcher Kyle Bradish is scheduled to take the ball for Saturday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. The right-hander was supposed to start on Friday, but was pushed back a day for extra rest. O's manager Brandon Hyde said there are no health concerns for Bradish. This looks like a case of the Orioles just being cautious with Bradish who is coming off an elbow injury. Fantasy managers should prepare to have Bradish back on the mound for Saturday's game.Source: Rich Dubroff
9 hours agoChicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner (hand) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Friday's game against the Cincinnati Reds. Cubs manager Craig Counsell said that Hoerner's X-rays came back somewhat inconclusive. For the moment, fantasy managers should consider Hoerner as day-to-day. Although, it wouldn't be shocking to see Hoerner land on the injured list considering he's having trouble gripping the bat. David Bote will get the starting nod at second base and figures to see more action there if Hoerner misses time.Source: Meghan Montemurro

11 hours agoNew York Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole (elbow) will make another minor-league rehab start on Sunday for Double-A Somerset. In his first rehab start for Somerset on Tuesday, Cole looked very good, throwing 3 1/3 scoreless innings while striking out five and touching 97 mph on the radar gun. The 33-year-old reigning American League Cy Young winner is going to need several more rehab starts as he slowly builds up his pitch count, but after being out all year due to a right-elbow injury suffered in spring training, Cole is nearing his return from the 60-day injured list. When he returns to the starting rotation in the Bronx, Cole will be a must-start in all fantasy lineups right away as one of the most dominant arms in all of baseball.Source: MLB.com - Bryan Hoch
11 hours agoTexas Rangers right-hander Max Scherzer (arm, back) will make a minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday. It comes after Scherzer was able to throw a successful 40-pitch live batting practice session on Tuesday. The 39-year-old future Hall of Famer was initially pulled off his rehab assignment in early May after dealing with a nerve issue in his right arm, but things are looking good now and he's getting closer to making his 2024 debut for the Rangers. However, given his long layoff, fantasy managers shouldn't expect Scherzer's rehab assignment to be short. Scherzer landed on the injured to begin the year after having offseason back surgery. The dominant right-hander's career exploits are impressive, but it's fair to wonder how much he has left in the tank at this point. But when healthy, Scherzer is deserving of being rostered in all fantasy leagues.Source: RangersToday.com - Jeff Wilson
11 hours agoTexas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom (elbow) resumed throwing on Wednesday after a scheduled rest period and will throw his first bullpen session on the team's next homestand, which begins on Monday, June 17, against the New York Mets. deGrom is still in the process of recovery from his second Tommy John surgery and has been out all year, but he's making progress and is set for a big step soon. Still, the 35-year-old veteran has a long ways to go before he'll be a realistic candidate to rejoin Texas' starting rotation in the second half of the season sometime in August. The upside from the four-time All-Star is obvious, but deGrom hasn't been able to make more than 15 starts in a season since 2019 with the New York Mets, and he won't have much time to contribute in fantasy once he returns later this year.Source: RangersToday.com - Jeff Wilson
11 hours agoTexas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (hamstring) is not in the team's starting lineup on Friday on for the series opener against the visiting San Francisco Giants. It's not much of a surprise after Seager was forced to leave Wednesday's game against the Detroit Tigers with hamstring tightness. The good news is that the 30-year-old two-time World Series MVP is considered day-to-day and isn't expected to need a trip to the injured list. Fantasy managers need to remove him from their lineups on Friday and check back to see if he's feeling good enough to play for the second game of the series on Saturday. After a slow start, Seager has picked things up offensively and has hit .354 (23-for-65) with nine homers and 15 RBI in 18 games since May 14. Josh Smith is at the 6 and is batting second on Friday, with Ezequiel Duran at third base and batting eighth against Giants right-hander Logan Webb.Source: Texas Rangers PR
