6 days agoHouston Astros manager Joe Espada said that outfielder Kyle Tucker (shin) had X-rays done on his right shin after Monday's 7-4 win against the Cardinals, saying that nothing serious showed up in the results. This is good news, as the 27-year-old was pinch-hit for by Mauricio Dubon in his second at-bat after fouling a pitch off his shin. Tucker should be considered day-to-day, although fantasy managers should monitor the Astros' lineup for the next few days and keep an eye out for any further updates. Tucker has once again been a top-tier fantasy option, slashing .266/.395/.584 with 19 home runs, 40 RBI, and 10 stolen bases in 262 plate appearances.--Connelly Doan - RotoBallerSource: Julia Morales - X.com

6 days agoArizona Diamondbacks catching prospect Adrian Del Castillo is having a fantastic season at Triple-A this season, slashing .340/.391/.612 with 10 home runs, 37 RBI, and 43 runs scored in 206 at-bats (51 games). The 24-year-old is also leading all minor leaguers in doubles with 22. While Tucker Barnhart surely provides an invaluable veteran presence at the catcher position on the big league club, his .154 batting average, no home runs, and .494 OPS probably won't cut it much longer as long as Del Castillo continues to hit. The left-handed hitter may not have a big impact for fantasy initially as he'd be the backup to primary catcher Gabriel Moreno, but we should see him in the majors at some point this season. If Moreno were to suffer an injury, Del Castillo could quickly become fantasy-relevant.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBallerSource: MiLB.com

6 days agoSeattle Mariners outfield prospect Lazaro Montes went 1-for-3 with two walks on Sunday for Single-A Modesto. The 19-year-old scored once and collected his league-leading 57th RBI in the contest as well. The hit also extended his current hitting streak to eight games, during which he's batting .394 (13-for-33). On the season, the left-handed hitter is slashing .330/.429/.534 with nine home runs, a .450 wOBA, and a 158 wRC+. With nearly as many walks (33) as strikeouts (40), he's shown great patience at the plate as well. The Mariners' fourth-ranked prospect seems to be on the precipice of a promotion as he proved he could hit High-A pitching in 2023 as well, but is still a couple years away from the majors. Montes should already be on the radar for dynasty managers, and will begin to creep up the MLB Top 100 Prospects list, currently ranked at 82 overall.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBallerSource: MiLB.com

6 days agoSeattle Mariners executive vice president and general manager of baseball operations Justin Hollander announced on Monday that the team optioned rookie outfielder Jonatan Clase to Triple-A Tacoma. The 22-year-old appeared in his first 15 big-league games and went 6-for-34 (.176) with no homers, a double, three RBI and 13 strikeouts in 35 plate appearances. In 28 games for Tacoma in 2024, Clase has hit .255 (28-for-110) with four home runs, 16 RBI and 12 stolen bases. The Mariners' No. 10 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, only started three games while with the big-league roster and could use more everyday playing time back on the farm. The Dominican switch-hitting outfielder relies mostly on speed, but there's also some intriguing power despite his 5-foot-9 frame. Clase is only worth stashing in dynasty/keeper leagues in 2024.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

6 days agoNew York Yankees outfield prospect Jasson Dominguez (elbow) will continue his rehab assignment at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after playing the last 10 games at Double-A Somerset. During his 10-game run at Double-A, the 21-year-old hit .316 (12-for-38) with four home runs, eight RBI, eight runs scored, and a stolen base. He also had a successful four-game stretch at Single-A where he went 5-for-13 (.385). Unfortunately for fantasy managers that have been stashing the switch-hitter, Dominguez will likely stay at Triple-A once he is eligible to come off the injured list, as the Yankees outfield is crowded right now and they do not currently need him with New York owning the best winning percentage in baseball. Regardless, he should continue to be stashed in all formats, as he'll be a multi-category producer whenever he does get the call.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBallerSource: MLB Pipeline

6 days agoSan Francisco Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee (shoulder) will have season-ending surgery on his dislocated left shoulder next Tuesday in Los Angeles, with Dr. Neal ElAttrache doing the procedure. Lee is expected to make a full recovery by the start of next spring. Manager Bob Melvin said Lee will remain around the team and rehab in San Francisco. The 25-year-old Japanese outfielder hit .262/.310/.331 with two home runs, four doubles, eight RBI, two stolen bases, 15 runs scored, 10 walks and 13 strikeouts in 158 plate appearances in his first 37 major-league games for the Giants before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury on May 12 against the Cincinnati Reds. Lee tore the labrum in his shoulder but should be ready to roll for the start of the 2025 season as San Fran's starting center fielder and leadoff hitter. If you haven't already done so in redraft leagues, Lee can be safely dropped now.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: NBC Sports Bay Area - Alex Pavlovic

6 days agoTampa Bay Rays shortstop Taylor Walls (hip), who was moved to the 60-day injured list on April 20 after having right-hip surgery in the offseason, began a minor-league rehab assignment with the Rookie-level Florida Complex League on May 21 and went 2-for-17 with a homer, two walks and two strikeouts while playing five games at shortstop. He then joined Triple-A Durham on May 30 and went 2-for-6 with two doubles and played all nine innings at the 6. Manager Kevin Cash said that Walls felt "the best he's felt in a long time, so really encouraged by that." Walls said on Feb. 13 that he had been dealing with a "noticeable hip impingement" for more than a year, and it reached the point in the playoffs where he could barely swing a bat. When he's healthy enough to return, Walls will give the Rays another option at shortstop.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

6 days agoTampa Bay Rays left-hander Jeffrey Springs (elbow, lat) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session of fastballs and changeups on Saturday and will throw another bullpen on Tuesday. The Rays hope he will restart his minor-league rehab assignment in early June. Springs' second rehab outing in the Rookie-level Florida Complex League ended after just one batter on May 25 after he was removed in the bottom of the first inning with left-shoulder tightness. Manager Kevin Cash said on May 26 that it was more of a lat issue and called it a "very precautionary" exit that shouldn't set Springs' rehab timeline back too far. The 31-year-old southpaw will have to restart his buildup with a one-inning outing and add to his workload each time out. Springs had Tommy John surgery on April 24 of last year and is currently on the 60-day injured list. Before the year, president of baseball operations Erik Neander said Springs could rejoin the starting rotation by July or August.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
6 days agoTampa Bay Rays left-hander Colin Poche (back) joined Triple-A Durham for a minor-league rehab assignment on Sunday after he felt good during a 15-pitch bullpen session on May 22. Manager Kevin Cash said Poche will likely need a few rehab appearances before he's ready to join the big-league bullpen in Tampa. The left-hander went on the injured list on April 26 (retroactive to April 24) with a mid-back issue that prevented him from feeling fully comfortable on the mound. The 30-year-old received an injection in his back, which came before a few days of rest, and he needed a second cortisone-type injection in early May. Poche had a career-best 2.23 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with a save in 66 relief outings for the Rays in 2023 but had allowed seven earned runs on 12 hits (three homers) in 9 1/3 innings this year before landing on the IL.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
6 days agoWashington Nationals pitching prospect Marquis Grissom Jr. was promoted to Double-A Harrisburg on May 30, and in his Double-A debut on June 1, the righty threw one inning of relief, allowing one hit and walking none while striking out three batters. It was an impressive debut for the 22-year-old, but also more of the same from him, as he posted a 29.2% strikeout rate over 21 2/3 innings at High-A prior to his promotion. On the season, Grissom now has a 1.19 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and a 29:7 K:BB over 15 games while also picking up four saves during his time at High-A. With Mitchell Parker's graduation from prospect status, Grissom also moved onto the Nats' top-30 prospect list. With an MLB ETA of 2025, he could be making an impact in fantasy leagues that reward holds and saves relatively soon.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBallerSource: MLB Pipeline

6 days agoMilwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins made his return to Philadelphia in Monday's loss to the Phillies, hitting his 10th home run of the season in the defeat. Hoskins blasted a solo homer to left-center field, cutting the Brewers' deficit to 3-1 in the seventh inning, and he also added his second stolen base of the campaign on Monday. The 31-year-old slugger has been a great source of power when healthy for the Brewers this year, slashing .243/.345/.486 with 10 long balls, five doubles, and 28 RBI across 168 plate appearances (41 games) while splitting time at first base and designated hitter. Fantasy managers should continue riding with Hoskins, who has now gone 8-for-21 with two big flies and seven RBI since returning from the injured list.--Joseph Barbati - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
6 days agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler put up another strong start against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers on Monday, striking out six batters across seven innings of one-run ball on five hits and three walks for his seventh win of the year. Make it four quality starts in a row for Wheeler, who's now reached double figures with 10 in this category this year. The 34-year-old fantasy stalwart will bring a sensational 2.23 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and 91:26 K:BB over 13 starts (80 2/3 innings) into his next scheduled start, which doesn't line up until next Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox with the Phillies headed to London this weekend. Wheeler is a matchup-proof fantasy play each time he takes the mound.--Joseph Barbati - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

6 days agoHouston Astros outfielder Kyle Tucker (shin) exited Monday's game against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals after fouling a ball off his right shin in the third inning. Tucker went down in a lot of pain and tried to stay in the contest, but Mauricio Dubon ultimately pinch hit for him. The Astros will provide another update on Tucker after further evaluation, and the right fielder should be considered day-to-day until more information comes to light ahead of Tuesday's matchup against St. Louis. After singling and stealing a base on Monday, the 27-year-old fantasy superstar is now slashing .266/.395/.584 with 19 home runs, 40 RBI, and 10 stolen bases through 214 at-bats (60 games) for the Astros this season. Houston could recall Joey Loperfido from the minor leagues if Tucker needs to head to the injured list.--Joseph Barbati - RotoBallerSource: Chandler Rome - The Athletic

6 days agoWhen asked if outfielder/designated hitter Masataka Yoshida (thumb) could be ready for a minor-league rehab assignment when the Boston Red Sox leave for Chicago to play the White Sox later this week for a series that runs Thursday through Sunday, manager Alex Cora said, "Hopefully. Hopefully." Yoshida was able to take live batting practice on the field on Sunday and is getting closer to returning from a left-thumb strain that has kept him out since April 28. Once Yoshida starts his rehab assignment, he might only need several games before the Red Sox reinstate him from the 10-day injured list. Before his injury, Yoshida was serving as Boston's primary DH against right-handed pitching. The 30-year-old Japanese outfielder's strength is his ability to make contact and get on base. Through his first 164 big-league games, he's hit .287/.339/.438 with 17 homers, 83 RBI and eight steals for Boston.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MassLive.com - Christopher Smith
