Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Should Play Vs. BoSox
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (forearm) to be in the team's lineup for their series opener against the hosting Boston Red Sox. The fantasy stalwart took a pitch to the forearm on Thursday from Guardians pitcher Tanner Bibee and was forced from the outing early. However, X-rays returned negative, and it doesn't appear to be serious. Guerrero Jr. is slashing a solid .286/.389/.506 across 77 at-bats in the month, with three long balls, eight doubles, 14 runs scored, 14 RBI, and a 9:9 BB:K ratio. He'll line up against right-handed hurler Brayan Bello for Friday night's matchup if he's in the starting nine.Source: MLB Network Radio
Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider told MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM that he expects first baseman Melvin Hernandez Extends Shutout Streak on Thursday
Source: MiLB.com
Milwaukee Brewers right-handed pitching prospect Melvin Hernandez extended his shutout streak on Thursday evening during their contest against Low-A Delmarva. In this game, Hernandez logged seven shutout innings and allowed only three hits. He struck out four and did not serve up any walks. Over his last two outings, leading up to Thursday, Hernandez tossed nine clean innings with just four hits, one walk, and nine punchouts. The 18-year-old has looked quite impressive during his first extended look at Low-A. Last summer, Hernandez tossed just six innings at the level as he spent most of the campaign in the Arizona Complex League. Through 70 2/3 total innings this season, the right-hander has held a 2.17 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on his progression as he could earn a taste of High-A later this summer.Elian Pena Enjoys Breakout Game
Source: MiLB.com
New York Mets infield prospect Elian Pena enjoyed a breakout game in the Dominican Summer League on Thursday. The 17-year-old went 4-for-5 with a double and three home runs. He tallied eight RBI and scored four runs. Before this impressive contest, Pena tallied just two doubles and no home runs across his first 16 games of the regular season. The Mets signed the young infielder in January to a $5 million contract during the international signing period. At the Pena, he was often credited as one of the best pure hitters in the international class. Dynasty managers should keep an eye on his progress as he could push for a late-season taste of Low-A if he were to continue to find his footing. However, given his modest start, he is still several seasons away from reaching the upper levels of the minor leagues.Hayden Birdsong Falters Early in Loss to Marlins
Hayden Birdsong allowed four hits and seven earned runs across four innings in his team's 12-5 loss to the Miami Marlins. He walked four, hit a batter, and struck out one. This was easily the former sixth-round pick's worst outing of the season, as the Marlins got to him early and often on Thursday. Birdsong had been stellar throughout 2025, but has now yielded 11 earned runs over his last 8 1/3 innings. At the start of the month, the 23-year-old boasted a 2.37 ERA. That's risen in each subsequent start to an unattractive 4.13. He'll carry that, a 1.38 WHIP, and a 3-2 record into his next trip to the mound -- a meeting with the hosting Arizona Diamondbacks early next week.Source: ESPN
San Francisco Giants pitcher Spencer Jones Promoted to Triple-A
Spencer Jones to Triple-A. Jones has spent the entire 2024 campaign and the first half of 2025 with Double-A Somerset. After posting a modest .259/.336/.452 slash line last summer, Jones has taken a significant step forward this season, which earned him the promotion. Through 49 games this season, Jones has posted an impressive .274/.389/.594 slash line with eight doubles, 16 home runs, and 10 stolen bases. Across 122 games last season, Jones hit just 17 round-trippers. The 24-year-old is currently considered the No. 2-ranked prospect in the Yankee system on MLB.com. Fantasy managers should keep a close eye on his progression in Triple-A, as he could open the door for a late-season MLB debut if he continues to showcase his high power upside.Source: MiLB.com
The New York Yankees are promoting outfield prospect Emerson Hancock Dealt Second Straight Loss
Emerson Hancock yielded three hits and two earned runs over five innings of work in Thursday's 10-1 road loss against the Minnesota Twins. He struck out two, walked three, and hit two batters to fall to 3-4 through 14 starts. The former Georgia Bulldog picked up a second straight loss in his team's defeat, though he pitched much better this time out as opposed to the nine earned runs he allowed to the Cubs last week. Hancock has steadily given up three earned runs or fewer in 11 of his outings this season. However, he's notched six or more in the other three to balloon his ERA and WHIP to an undesirable 5.30 and 1.42. He'll get the visiting Kansas City Royals his next time out.Source: ESPN
Seattle Mariners pitcher Jeffrey Springs Struggles in Loss
Jeffrey Springs posted his worst outing of the month during Thursday's game against the Detroit Tigers. Springs was hit around early, giving up a homer to Spencer Torkelson and a two-run double to Jahmai Jones before the end of the third inning. He settled down after that, but allowed three earned runs on five hits with two walks over five innings of work in the loss. He currently holds a 4.30 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 75/34/ K/BB ratio as he heads into his next outing against the Tampa Bay Rays. Springs has some streaming value for that one, but has been more of a deep league option this season.Source: mlb.com
Athletics starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi Returning on Friday
Nathan Eovaldi (triceps) will be activated off the 15-day injured list and start Friday's game against the Seattle Mariners. As expected, Eovaldi will make his return to the mound after being sidelined since the beginning of June due to a right triceps injury. He threw a few simulated games, but didn't need a rehab assignment before returning to the rotation. Eovaldi has been excellent with a 1.56 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, and 73/10 K/BB ratio across 12 starts this season. Fantasy managers should activate him off their IL and get him in their lineups ahead of first pitch.Source: MLB
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Dietrich Enns Solid in Team Debut
Dietrich Enns took the mound in a big league game on Thursday for the first time since 2021. Enns made his first start on the mound since 2017 and certainly made the most of it. He tossed five scoreless innings, allowing one hit, two walks, and struck out four batters in the win over the Athletics. This is a nice feel-good story, but Enns probably won't stick around on the Tigers for long. It sounds like Reese Olson (finger) is on the verge of returning, so he'll probably take over that spot in the rotation. Enns will probably head back to Triple-A, but this was still a nice outing from him.Source: mlb.com
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Spencer Torkelson Breaks Out of Slump
Spencer Torkelson has been in an ugly slump, but was able to do some damage with the bat on Thursday. Before this game, Torkelson was 2-for-27 over his last seven games prior to Thursday's contest. He got the scoring started with a solo home run off left-hander Jeffrey Springs in the second inning. He would finish this game 2-for-4 with one home run, one RBI, and two runs scored in the win. The slump has certainly hurt his overall numbers, but Torkelson is still putting up his best season of his career. Fantasy managers should continue to hold him through his mid-season slump.Source: mlb.com
Detroit Tigers first baseman Michael Busch Blasts Homer on Thursday
Michael Busch continued his hot month at the plate during Thursday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Busch got the fun started off early with a solo home run off right-hander Andre Pallante in the second inning. The left-handed slugger has been outstanding with a .311/.386/.608 slash line with six home runs in the month of June. He finished this game 2-for-4 with a homer, one RBI, and two runs scored in the 3-0 victory. Fantasy managers looking for a boost on offense should consider adding Busch while he's hot.Source: mlb.com
Chicago Cubs first baseman Matt Wallner Homers in Win
Matt Wallner has struggled throughout most of the season, but came up with a big hit on Thursday. Wallner was quiet until crushing a two-run home run off right-hander Zach Pop in the seventh inning. He ended his night 1-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and a walk in the blowout win. Wallner has decent potential, but hasn't been productive this season and isn't worth rostering in most fantasy formats right now.Source: mlb.com
Minnesota Twins outfielder Shohei Ohtani Starting on Saturday
Shohei Ohtani will start as a pitcher Saturday in Kansas City. Ohtani will make his third start on the mound on Saturday as the Dodgers take on the Kansas City Royals. To this point, he has logged one inning in each of his first two starts, and in those two innings combined, he has allowed one earned run, two hits, and has struck out two batters. At this point, it's still unclear as to whether or not the Dodgers will let Ohtani throw more than one inning, but it's encouraging to see him continue to take the mound weekly. Ohtani has served as the designated hitter leadoff batter in both games he's pitched in so far, so this shouldn't impact him being in the lineup as a hitter.Source: Sonja Chen
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed Thursday that two-way superstar Athletics Release Seth Brown
Seth Brown (elbow) was waived by the Athletics on Wednesday and elected free agency Thursday, MLB.com reports. In addition to being injured with an elbow issue, the Athletics decided to move on from the 32-year-old left-hander after seven seasons with the team. The decision perhaps stems from the crop of young prospects the Athletics have been calling up to the big leagues, and their desire to create an environment where the young players can play every day. In addition, Brown has struggled in 2025, slashing .185/.303/.262 with only one home run, six runs scored, and three RBI in 76 plate appearances. Brown has some pop in his bat, as he has hit 14 or more home runs in the last four seasons, so a team looking for a left-handed batter with some power will likely take a flier on him.Source: MLB.com
Athletics outfielder Jon Gray Throws Another Bullpen on Wednesday
Jon Gray (wrist) threw a bullpen session on June 25 at Camden Yards. He is expected to throw one to two more bullpens before discussions of a rehab assignment or a return, MLB.com reports. Gray has now thrown two bullpen sessions within the last week and a third overall. At this point, it appears the Rangers want him to see him throw a couple more bullpen sessions before starting a rehab assignment, but he's trending in the right direction. Gray has missed all of the 2025 season with the Rangers, and there's a solid chance that once healthy, he slides into the starting rotation, although that's dependent on how the young Ranger arms like Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter are throwing at the time of the decision. Gray is targeting a mid-to-late July return date, and he can remain on the waiver wire for now.Source: MLB.com
