5 days agoPhiladelphia Phillies outfielder/designated hitter Kyle Schwarber was 2-for-4 with two solo home runs during Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Boston Red Sox. Both of Schwarber's big flies came off of Red Sox starter Kutter Crawford and helped snap an eight-game homer drought. The 31-year-old slugger is now slashing .240/.359/.417 this season with 13 home runs, 38 RBI, 47 runs scored and four stolen bases. While his homer pace is slightly down from previous years, he has helped offset it by improving his ratios. Fantasy managers should continue to plug Schwarber into their lineups, especially now that the power stroke is back.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

5 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said on Tuesday that starting pitcher Bobby Miller (shoulder) will make one more minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday. If all goes well, that'll be his last appearance in the minors before re-entering the Dodgers' rotation. A right shoulder impingement has sidelined Miller since April 10, but the hurler is lining up to be reinstated from the injured list early next week during a four-game set with the division-rival Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. The fire-balling 25-year-old right-hander owns a 5.40 ERA through three starts in 2024, and he'd be a risky fantasy bet in his first start back from an extended absence at a hitter-friendly ballpark, despite posting an 18:6 K:BB over 11 2/3 innings. LA will also have a tough decision to make with former top prospect Gavin Stone, who has thrown extremely well but could end up being optioned back to the minors to make space for Miller.--Joseph Barbati - RotoBallerSource: Juan Toribio - MLB.com
Share:
5 days agoArizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said that starting pitcher Zac Gallen (hamstring) threw a bullpen session ahead of Tuesday's series opener against the visiting Los Angeles Angels. Gallen will throw another bullpen on Friday, and he will likely need to pitch in one or two simulated games before returning to the D-backs. The 28-year-old workhorse right-hander is working his way back from a strained right hamstring, and it doesn't sound like he'll need to embark on a minor-league rehab assignment before rejoining Arizona's rotation. Fantasy managers should expect to get him back sometime either late next week during the club's six-game road trip or early the following week. Gallen has a 3.12 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 60:15 K:BB over 57 2/3 frames (11 starts) this year and needs to be stashed in all fantasy leagues.--Joseph Barbati - RotoBallerSource: Theo Mackie - The Arizona Republic

5 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy (oblique) says he is "not progressing as fast" as he would like to from his strained right oblique. Muncy took grounders and ran the bases on Tuesday, but he hasn't resumed swinging at this stage, per MLB.com. He remains without a timetable for a return, and considering Muncy will likely need a minor-league rehab assignment before doing so, an activation from the injured list in late June seems like a best-case scenario. The 33-year-old three-true-outcomes slugger was slashing a solid .223/.323/.476 with nine home runs, eight doubles, and 28 RBI across 167 plate appearances as LA's everyday man at the hot corner before getting injured, and he should stay stashed in all fantasy leagues. Enrique Hernandez and Miguel Rojas should continue handling the bulk of action at third base in Muncy's stead, but neither are worth considering outside of the deepest leagues.--Joseph Barbati - RotoBallerSource: Foul Territory
Share:
5 days agoSt. Louis Cardinals catcher Willson Contreras (forearm) has progressed to hitting soft toss, and he caught a bullpen ahead of Tuesday's series opener against the division-rival Pittsburgh Pirates. It's been a remarkable turnaround for Contreras, who is making swift progress in his recovery from a fractured left forearm. He has a chance to return to the Cardinals before the end of June with the strides he's made, so fantasy managers should be stashing him in all leagues at this juncture. Before going down, the 32-year-old star backstop was St. Louis' most effective hitter with a hearty .280/.398/.551 triple-slash line, six home runs, 11 doubles, and 12 RBI over 128 plate appearances. Ivan Herrera and Pedro Pages are sharing work behind the dish at the moment, but neither have done enough overall to warrant much fantasy attention this year.--Joseph Barbati - RotoBallerSource: Daniel Guerrero - St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Share:
5 days agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga (shoulder) threw a bullpen session on Sunday, and he will throw another one on Wednesday. Senga did long toss ahead of Tuesday's series opener against the division-rival Miami Marlins, and manager Carlos Mendoza is pleased that he's getting back on the mound. Senga appears to be over the triceps tightness that set his throwing progression back on the way back from a right posterior shoulder capsule strain, but he's still not going to be an option for the Mets or fantasy managers until at least late July. The hard-throwing 31-year-old right-hander recorded a strong 2.98 ERA (3.63 FIP), 1.20 WHIP, and 202:77 K:BB over 166 1/3 innings a season ago, however, and remains in play as a stash that should be available from New York's rotation sometime shortly after the All-Star break.--Joseph Barbati - RotoBallerSource: Laura Albanese - Newsday
Share:
5 days agoPhiladelphia Phillies pitching prospect Robinson Pina has looked quite sharp as of late, operating as a starter and could be nearing a promotion to Triple-A. Pina has bounced between a bullpen role and a starter role all throughout his minor league career but may have finally found his footing as a starter. Since May 1, Pina has posted a 3.03 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and a stellar 5:39 BB:K ratio. Overall, in 51 ⅔ innings this season, he holds a 3.31 ERA and 1.20 WHIP, which is on pace to be the best numbers in his career as a starter. The 25-year-old right-hander should be left on all waiver wires for now, but could be worth a look in dynasty leagues if he continues to showcase this elite strikeout potential as a starter over an extended period of time.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MiLB.com
Share:
5 days agoAtlanta Braves catching prospect Drake Baldwin was promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday, June 11. Baldwin got a small taste of Triple-A last summer and opened this season with Double-A. Through 52 games with Double-A Mississippi this year, the former third-round pick posted a .244/.313/.337 slash line with four home runs, 33 RBI, and a 20:41 BB:K ratio. The young backstop has progressed through the minor leagues fairly quickly as he opened last season with High-A and will now get his first extended look at Triple-A just one year later. The Missouri State product is ranked as the number 11 prospect in the Atlanta system and could become an intriguing stash candidate in dynasty leagues if he performs well at Triple-A.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MiLB Central
Share:
5 days agoThe plan is for New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz (shoulder) to be activated on Thursday, manager Carlos Mendoza said before Tuesday's series opener against the division-rival Miami Marlins. There was some hope that Diaz, who threw a bullpen without any issues, could return on Tuesday, but he will have Wednesday off and is scheduled to be reinstated ahead of Thursday's series finale against the Marlins. His struggles before hitting the IL with a right shoulder impingement are well-documented, as evidenced by his 5.40 ERA and four blown saves out of nine opportunities over 20 appearances for the Mets this year, but the flame-throwing 30-year-old right-hander has an encouraging 30:7 K:BB and should be first in line for save chances out of New York's bullpen following some time to reset. Reed Garrett should serve as the favorite for saves for the next few days, but his fantasy stock is trending down.--Joseph Barbati - RotoBallerSource: Will Sammon - The Athletic
Share:
5 days agoHouston Astros catcher Yainer Diaz (finger) is still out of Tuesday's lineup against the hosting San Francisco Giants. Diaz and the Astros got good news on Tuesday, however, when X-ray and MRI results on the backstop's right index finger came back negative prior to Tuesday's game, per Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 in Houston. It's fair to expect Diaz to get back into Houston's lineup for Wednesday's series finale against San Francisco, but they could hold him out until Friday's series opener against the Detroit Tigers with a day off on Thursday. The 25-year-old slugger has gone 8-for-25 with four home runs and 10 RBI over his last six outings and needs to be held in all fantasy leagues while he recuperates. Veteran switch-hitter Victor Caratini will catch Ronel Blanco from behind the plate and hit ninth on Tuesday against Giants right-hander Jordan Hicks, but there's little to fantasy appeal here.--Joseph Barbati - RotoBallerSource: Houston Astros on X
Share:
5 days agoSeattle Mariners outfield prospect Lazaro Montes has been one of the best hitters in the minor leagues this season and has continued to post incredible numbers at Single-A. In his past seven games, the 19-year-old has held a .320/.438/.720 slash line with three home runs, eight RBI, and a 6:4 BB:K ratio. Overall, in 54 games with Single-A Modesto, the 19-year-old has a .329/.426/.559 line with 12 long balls and an incredible 64 RBI. Montes got a small taste of Single-A last summer and is clearly ready to move up to High-A. MLB Pipeline ranks Montes as the number four prospect in the Seattle system and 82nd among all prospects in baseball. Montes is showcasing incredible upside and is already worth stashing in deeper dynasty formats, even though he is several seasons away from his major league debut.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MiLB.com
Share:
5 days agoTexas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (hamstring) remains out of Tuesday's lineup for the series opener against the hosting Los Angeles Dodgers. Monday's day off wasn't enough time off to heal for Seager, who will miss a fourth consecutive game due to left hamstring tightness. His next chance to return for the Rangers comes on Wednesday against LA. Utility man Ezequiel Duran will cover shortstop and bat seventh on Tuesday, while the switch-hitting Robbie Grossman is hitting second and operating as Texas' designated hitter against Dodgers left-hander James Paxton. Grossman is batting .275 (11-for-40) with three doubles and five RBI against left-handed pitching this season, and he's worth a look in a favorable spot in the lineup as an emergency option for fantasy managers in a pinch.--Joseph Barbati - RotoBallerSource: Texas Rangers Communications
Share:
5 days agoSan Diego Padres pitching prospect Jayvien Sandridge was promoted to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday, June 11. Sandridge began the season in Double-A and tossed 21 ⅓ innings of relief. He got a small taste of Double-A ball last summer as he logged just four innings. This season, he held a 3.38 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, and a 14:39 BB:K ratio with four saves. The 25-year-old was dominant through April with a 1.08 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and a 6:18 BB:K ratio but struggled through May with a 4.50 ERA. However, in his past three outings, he has tallied eight punchouts and one save with just one earned run. MLB Pipeline ranks Sandridge as the 29th overall prospect in the San Diego system and projects him to reach the majors later this summer. However, he will likely just be a candidate for holds in deeper leagues once he reaches the majors, as Robert Suarez is the clear ninth-inning option in San Diego.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MiLB Central
Share:
5 days agoSan Francisco Giants outfield prospect Grant McCray was promoted to Triple-A on Monday, June 10. McCray made his Double-A debut at the start of the season and needed just 50 games at that level to prove he was ready for the final stop in the minor leagues. Through these 50 games, the 23-year-old posted a .210/.313/.420 line with 6 long balls, 24 RBI, and six stolen bases. Over the past two seasons, McCray spent most of his time with High-A and logged 141 games there with a .256/.363/.418 line. He could push for a promotion to the major leagues in the second half of the season and could become an interesting stash candidate.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: San Francisco Giants
Share:
5 days agoChicago White Sox starting pitcher Drew Thorpe has been recalled from Double-A Birmingham on Tuesday. The 23-year-old will make his MLB debut against the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night. Thorpe was the main piece back to Chicago during the Dylan Cease trade. He held a 1.35 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, and 56/17 K/BB ratio during his time in Double-A this season. Considering the White Sox record, Thorpe should stick around in the rotation for more than one start. He's worth looking at as a streaming option in deep leagues ahead of Tuesday's start.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: mlb.com
