Tarik Skubal Overpowers Twins in 13-Strikeout Gem
Tarik Skubal spun his latest gem in a 3-0 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. Skubal fired seven innings of one-hit ball and tied a career high with 13 strikeouts against one walk to improve to 10-2. The reigning AL Cy Young winner threw the 15 fastest pitches of the night, all of which clocked in at 97.9 mph or higher, and generated 22 swinging strikes. Having already totaled five starts of double-digit strikeouts, Skubal leads the majors with 138 over 109 innings. The left-hander has given out a meager 14 free passes while posting a 2.15 ERA and a league-best 0.83 WHIP. Skubal will get the ball next in a road start against the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday. He was spectacular in a win over the Guardians on May 25, firing a complete-game, two-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts.Source: ESPN
Detroit Tigers ace Will Vest Secures 13th Save
Will Vest pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning Sunday to finish off a 3-0 win over the Minnesota Twins. Vest struck out one and needed only eight pitches on the way to his 13th save in 16 chances. The 30-year-old right-hander now owns a 2.37 ERA with 42:10 K:BB and a 0.95 WHIP over 38 frames. Vest is Detroit's preferred option to close games, while Tommy Kahnle is next in line. The Tigers used Kahnle in the eighth on Sunday, and he threw a scoreless inning to tally his 11th hold. Kahnle has eight saves, the latest of which came on June 4.Source: ESPN
Detroit Tigers reliever Josh Hader Closes Out Cubs for 23rd Save
Josh Hader made quick work of the Chicago Cubs to secure save No. 23 in a 2-0 win Sunday. Hader pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning with one strikeout over just 11 pitches to clinch a series win for the Astros. The shutdown left-hander has converted all of his save attempts this season while pitching to a 1.67 ERA with a 0.69 WHIP and 57:7 K:BB. Hader has been automatic this year and is closing in on his sixth 30-save campaign.Source: ESPN
Houston Astros closer Robert Suarez Blows Save, Takes Loss on Sunday
Robert Suarez came on in a save situation Sunday and ended up taking the loss in a 3-2 final against the Cincinnati Reds. Suarez entered the ninth with a 2-1 lead and allowed four singles, a walk, and two runs while retiring just one hitter. Reds outfielder Will Benson lined a walk-off single to right field to give Suarez his fourth blown save and send him to 2-3 on the season. Suarez is tied for the league lead with 23 saves and has registered a 1.10 WHIP with 36 strikeouts against 12 walks. However, a handful of poor performances have led to a so-so 3.89 ERA in 34 2/3 innings. The 34-year-old will be glad when June ends, as he has been tattooed for nine earned runs on 14 hits over 10 1/3 frames this month.Source: ESPN
San Diego Padres closer Ronny Henriquez Earns Third Save
Ronny Henriquez closed out the team's 6-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday with a perfect ninth inning. Henriquez retired the side in order on 13 pitches and struck out one to collect his third save. The 25-year-old has gotten the call in two of the Marlins' past three save situations. Calvin Faucher, who leads the team with eight saves, pitched the eighth inning Sunday against the top of the Diamondbacks' order. It didn't work out, as Faucher gave up two earned runs on three hits. He's likely still the Marlins' top choice for saves with Henriquez next in line. Henriquez has logged a 2.93 ERA with 55:16 K:BB, a 1.25 WHIP, and 11 holds in 40 innings.Source: ESPN
Miami Marlins reliever Kenley Jansen Blows Save in Loss
Kenley Jansen suffered his first blown save of the season Sunday in a 7-4 loss to the Washington Nationals. Jansen came in to pitch the top of the ninth with a 4-3 lead and proceeded to allow one run on two hits with an intentional walk and a strikeout. The Angels would go on to lose in the 11th. Jansen had converted all 15 save attempts before Sunday, but he did so despite putting up uninspiring numbers. Through 28 2/3 innings this season, the 37-year-old has posted career worsts in ERA (4.40), strikeouts per nine (8.16 K/9), and WHIP (1.36). That output isn't indicative of a lockdown closer, though Jansen does have a secure hold on the Angels' job.Source: ESPN
Los Angeles Angels closer Kyle Finnegan Picks Up Win on Sunday
Kyle Finnegan (1-2) earned his first win of the season in a 7-4 defeat of the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. Finnegan, who hadn't made an appearance since Wednesday, threw three innings of scoreless, hitless ball with two strikeouts and two walks. He entered in the ninth inning and wound up slamming the door on the Angels in the 11th after Washington took a three-run lead. Finnegan tossed 30 pitches in his second-longest outing of the season and lowered his ERA to 2.61 across 31 frames. The 33-year-old also boasts a 1.16 WHIP with 25:10 K:BB and 18 saves in 23 chances.Source: ESPN
Washington Nationals closer Kerry Carpenter to Undergo MRI on Hamstring
Kerry Carpenter (hamstring) left the team's 3-0 win over the Minnesota Twins on Sunday with a right hamstring injury. Carpenter will undergo an MRI on Monday, according to Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic. For his part, Carpenter is optimistic that it's not a serious problem. "It feels similar to the last time I had a little issue with it," he said. "The staff here has done a great job of getting me back pretty quickly. We'll see how it goes, but I think we're all pretty optimistic about it." Carpenter tweaked his hamstring in late April and has played through it without requiring a trip to the 10-day injured list. Before exiting Sunday, Carpenter starred with a home run, a triple, and two RBI in a 2-for-3 night. The 27-year-old is batting .257/.285/.494 with 16 homers, 32 RBI, and 40 runs scored over 280 plate appearances.Source: Cody Stavenhagen - The Athletic
Detroit Tigers outfielder Ranger Suarez Tosses Seven Strong Innings in Win
Ranger Suarez earned his seventh win of the season in a 2-1 victory over the Braves on Sunday. He allowed one run on four hits and one walk while striking out eight over seven innings. This was his fifth consecutive start of at least seven innings pitched with two earned runs or fewer. The 29-year-old was one of the best pitchers in baseball during the first half of 2024 before falling off later in the season, but it looks like he has returned to that elite form here in 2025. After allowing seven earned runs in his first start of the season on May 4, he's allowed only nine runs in his ten starts since. The lefty will carry a 2.00 ERA into his next start, currently set to be against the Reds.Source: MLB.com
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Kerry Carpenter Leaves Game with Apparent Hamstring Injury
Kerry Carpenter (hamstring) left Sunday's 3-0 victory over the Twins in what is likely a hamstring injury, reports Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic. He pulled into third base injured after hitting an RBI triple in the fifth inning, and was immediately removed by a pinch runner. He was already playing through a sore hamstring and was wearing a compression sleeve, so it's very possible that he injured it further. The slugger was on his way to having a huge day at the plate, as he was 2-for-3 with a home run and triple. Expect further updates on the extent of his injury after he undergoes further tests after the game.Source: Cody Stavenhagen
Detroit Tigers outfielder Miguel Rojas Exits Early with Jammed Finger
Miguel Rojas (finger) left Sunday's game against the Royals in the eighth inning after injuring his finger on a stolen base attempt in the seventh inning. After the game, Rojas said he won't need a trip to the injured list and that it was just a bad jammed finger, reports David Vassegh of SportsNet LA. The player's word isn't always the most reliable source of information, as it ultimately isn't up to them whether they play through the injury or not, but it's encouraging to see that he isn't concerned. Even if he doesn't need an IL stint, the 36-year-old could see some extended time on the bench while he recovers.Source: David Vassegh
Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Anthony Seigler Getting Promoted to Majors
Anthony Seigler is getting called up to the major leagues, reports Francys Romero. The youngster has played all around the infield this season in Triple-A, making appearances at catcher, second base, and third base. He signed a minor league deal with the Brewers this offseason with low expectations, after not panning out for the Yankees since being drafted 23rd overall in the 2018 draft. However, he has been dominant in the minors this year, slashing .278/.416/.469 with seven home runs, 35 RBI, 43 runs, and 20 stolen bases in 62 games. He'll likely serve as a utility man for the big league club, but his versatility will leave him with many opportunities to hit his way into the lineup. The 26-year-old isn't a must-add in most fantasy leagues, but he is an intriguing option for deep roto leagues.Source: Francys Romero
Milwaukee Brewers catcher and infielder Cedric Mullins Drawing Trade Interest From Astros
Cedric Mullins is drawing trade interest from the Houston Astros, who are aggressively looking for a left-handed bat on the market. It would be a boost for Houston's offense, as their outfield currently consists of Jake Meyers, Cooper Hummel, and Cam Smith. Mullins is batting only .213 with a .295 on-base percentage, but he brings some pop and speed to the lineup with 12 home runs and eight stolen bases. The speedster is just one year removed from stealing 32 bases in 2024, and a change of scenery could potentially wake him up out of his current slump.Source: Michael Schwab
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Day'Ron Sharpe Heads to Free Agency
Day'Ron Sharpe did not receive a qualifying offer from the organization on Sunday. The organization decided to decline the $5.98 million option and let Sharpe head into unrestricted free agency. The 23-year-old is coming off his career-best season in 2024. He averaged 7.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 18.2 minutes per game in 50 contests. There's certainly some holes in his game, but Sharpe can still be a decent contributor. His fantasy value will be dependent on where he lands in free agency.Source: Michael Scotto
Brooklyn Nets forward Santi Aldama Receives Qualifying Offer
Santi Aldama received a qualifying offer from the organization on Sunday. The Grizzlies have tendered a one-year, $5.94 million qualifying offer to Aldama. That being said, Aldama will enter free agency as a restricted free agent. He's coming off the best season of his career, so there could be some interest in free agency. He averaged 12.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists across 25.5 minutes per game in 65 contests. He's a reliable contributor that could be a useful reserve option on a number of teams.Source: Michael Scotto
Memphis Grizzlies forward Moritz Wagner has Team Option Declined
Moritz Wagner will have his team option declined, according to Shams Charania. This doesn't come as a surprise after Wagner missed most of last season due to a torn ACL. When healthy, Wagner averaged 12.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 18.8 minutes per game in 30 contests. He has spent each of the last five seasons with the Magic. Wagner has been a fairly decent option for the Magic, but recovering from an ACL injury isn't easy. It's worth noting that the Magic do retain the Bird Rights, so the two sides could still strike a deal. The Magic have also declined the team option on guard Caleb Houstan. He averaged 4.1 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.6 assists in 13.6 minutes per game. The Magic also have his Bird Rights, so we'll see if either player returns to Orlando.Source: Shams Charania
Orlando Magic forward Jabari Smith Jr. Signs Massive Extension
Jabari Smith Jr. agreed to a massive extension with the organization on Sunday. The two sides have come to terms on a five-year, $122 million extension. Clearly, the Rockets believe Smith is going to be a big part of their future going forward. It's worth noting that Smith did play as a reserve for most of last season. Despite that, Smith has been a reliable contributor over the last three seasons. He averaged 12.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.1 assists across 30.1 minutes per game in 57 contests last season. It remains to be seen how the addition of Kevin Durant is going to impact the rotation. The Rockets will find a way to get Smith involved, but he'll probably still fall outside the top-100 in nine-cat formats.Source: Shams Charania
Houston Rockets forward Hornets Trading Jusuf Nurkic to Utah
Jusuf Nurkic to the Utah Jazz in exchange for guard Collin Sexton. The veteran began last season with the Phoenix Suns. Unfortunately, he found himself out of the rotation before being moved to the Hornets. Nurkic wasn't a consistent fantasy producer throughout his 26 games in Charlotte. Still, he had a few solid outings and would finish with averages of 8.9 points and 7.8 rebounds. It's unknown if Walker Kessler will remain in Utah. If he doesn't, Nurkic should get a clearer path toward playing time. On the other hand, Nurkic should still get minutes even if Kessler stays on the roster.Source: Shams Charania
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Charlotte Hornets are trading center Collin Sexton Heading to Charlotte
Collin Sexton to the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for center Jusuf Nurkic. Sexton's best days were when he was a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, he still had some quality seasons in Utah, most recently averaging 18.4 points and 4.2 assists while shooting a career-high 40.6% from behind the arc in 2024-25. The 26-year-old could struggle to remain as productive in Charlotte, considering the club has LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller, and Miles Bridges on the roster. Still, Ball hasn't been the healthiest throughout his career, so Sexton could be thrown into a more prominent role at some point during the 2025 campaign.Source: Shams Charania
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Utah Jazz are trading guard Cam Thomas Set for Restricted Free Agency
Cam Thomas, making him a restricted free agent. The 23-year-old averaged a career-high 24 points last season. Unfortunately, nagging hamstring issues limited him to only 25 appearances. It's safe to say the Nets will do what it takes to keep him, especially since the club is in the position to do so from a financial standpoint. If that's the case, Thomas has an excellent chance to lead the club in scoring, considering the club will be on the young side in 2025. An All-Star selection could also be on the horizon. With that in mind, Thomas has plenty to offer fantasy managers due to his offensive prowess. However, his health will remain a concern until he proves he can stay off the injury report.Source: Michael Scotto
The Brooklyn Nets extended a qualifying offer to guard Bobby Portis Staying in Milwaukee
Bobby Portis agreed to a three-year, $44 million contract to remain with the team. It's unknown what the future holds for Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks. However, it's safe to say the move made to retain Portis shows that the franchise wants to stay competitive. The 30-year-old appeared in only 49 contests last season, mostly due to a 25-game suspension for testing positive for a banned substance. Still, he remained productive, averaging 13.9 points and 8.4 rebounds. With that said, Portis could continue to operate from off the bench. Yet, he should get his minutes while remaining a double-double threat in the process.Source: Shams Charania
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Milwaukee Bucks forward/center Jonas Brodin Expected to Miss Start of Next Season
Source: Michael Russo
Minnesota Wild defenseman Jonas Brodin (upper body) will likely miss the start of the 2025-26 NHL season. Michael Russo of The Athletic reports that Brodin had upper-body surgery a few weeks ago. Health issues have plagued Bordin for several years, and he made only 50 appearances with the Wild in 2024-25. The Swedish veteran posted 20 points (four goals, 16 shots) with 104 blocks. Zeev Buium, who made his NHL debut during the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs, might see increased usage due to Brodin's absence at the beginning of next season.Conor Sheary Placed on Waivers for Contract Termination
Source: ESPN
Tampa Bay Lightning winger Conor Sheary is set to become an unrestricted free agent after being placed on unconditional waivers Sunday for the purpose of terminating his contract. The veteran forward had one year left on his three-year contract and was due to make $2 million next season. Sheary had a disappointing spell with the Lightning and made only five appearances for the team in 2024-25. However, the two-time Stanley Cup champion was a point-per-game player in the AHL with the Syracuse Crunch and could attract interest from several teams as a free agent. Sheary has tallied 124 goals and 267 points in 593 career games in the NHL.James Harden, Clippers Agree on a New Contract
James Harden declined his player option. Instead, both sides agreed to a new two-year, $81.5 million contract. The 35-year-old is likely nearing the end of his career. Yet, he's still productive, most recently averaging 22.8 points, 7.2 assists, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.5 steals in 79 games last season. He also remains one of the most durable players in the National Basketball Association, logging 151 games over the last two seasons. Harden should remain a top fantasy option for at least a few more seasons, assuming he continues to stay off the injury report.Source: Shams Charania
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Los Angeles Clippers guard Dante Fabbro Stays with Blue Jackets on Four-Year Deal
Source: ESPN
Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Dante Fabbro signed a four-year, $16.5 million contract with the club on Sunday. The Blue Jackets locked him up with a new deal just a few days before Fabbro would have become an unrestricted free agent. He played the 2024-25 season on a one-year, $2.5 million contract, starting off the campaign with the Nashville Predators, who waived Fabbro in November. Fabbro made many in Nashville regret the decision, as he enjoyed a fine season in Columbus. In 62 appearances with the Blue Jackets, Fabbro registered 26 points (nine goals, 17 assists), 82 shots, 136 blocks, 66 hits, and a plus-23 rating. Fabbro is expected to continue playing an important role next season as Zach Werenski's partner on Columbus' top defensive pairing.Joel Hofer Commits to Blues for Two More Years
Source: ESPN
St. Louis Blues goaltender Joel Hofer has avoided restricted free agency by signing a new two-year deal with the team. He will earn $6.8 million over the next couple of campaigns. Hofer has provided solid goaltending for the Blues since making his NHL debut during the 2021-21 season. He compiled a 16-8-3 record during the 2024-25 campaign, allowing 2.64 goals with a .904 save percentage and one shutout. Hofer saw quite a bit of action behind Jordan Binnington, making 28 starts, and is likely to have a similar workload next season.Kevin Bahl Signs Long-Term Extension with Flames
Source: ESPN
Calgary Flames defenseman Kevin Bahl has committed his future to the franchise, agreeing to a six-year, $32.1 million extension. Bahl moved to Calgary a year ago in a trade with the New Jersey Devils and would have become a restricted free agent on July 1. Fantasy managers have seen limited production from Bahl, but he remains a valuable top-four defenseman for the Flames. In the 2024-25 season, he tallied 20 points (three goals, 17 assists), along with 82 shots, 116 blocks, and 109 hits over 73 games.Oneil Cruz Smacks Two Homers
Oneil Cruz has been in a slump recently and was dropped in the batting order. He fell to sixth in the order on Sunday, but maybe that helped spark his bat. Cruz hit a two-run home run off right-hander Frankie Montas in the first inning. He would hit another two-run shot in the seventh inning for his first multi-hit game in nearly a month. Cruz finished this game 2-for-4 with two homers, four RBI, and two runs scored in the blowout win over the New York Mets. It has been a struggle at times with Cruz, but fantasy managers should continue to stick with him.Source: mlb.com
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Jordan Spence Traded to Ottawa
Source: Sportsnet
The Ottawa Senators have acquired defenseman Jordan Spence in a trade with the Los Angeles Kings. The 24-year-old blue-liner fetched a 2025 third-round pick and a 2026 sixth-round pick. Spence departs L.A. after putting up a career-high 28 points (four goals, 24 assists) in 79 appearances in 2024-25. Additionally, he was among the Kings' leaders with a plus-23 rating. Spence should add a bit of offensive spark to the Senators blue line, but he likely won't see enough ice time to make a significant impact in most fantasy leagues.Justin Wrobleski Tosses Six Scoreless Innings
Justin Wrobleski came in as the bulk reliever during Sunday's game against the Kansas City Royals. This strategy has been working for the Dodgers, so they will continue using it. Wrobleski followed opener Lou Trivino and was nearly untouchable on the mound. He tossed six scoreless innings, allowing three hits, and striking out six batters in the win. Wrobleski has tossed four straight outings with two earned runs or less. The 24-year-old could start picking up steam here soon in fantasy leagues with the way he's throwing the ball.Source: mlb.com
