Michael Soroka To Come Off Injured List And Start On Wednesday
Michael Soroka (biceps) will come off the injured list and start on Wednesday against the visiting Cleveland Guardians. The plan is to move rookie right-hander Brad Lord back to the bullpen. The move comes after Soroka threw a successful bullpen session on Monday. The 27-year-old Canadian has been out since early April due to a strained biceps that he suffered in his lone start of the season on March 31 against the Toronto Blue Jays, when he allowed four earned runs on five hits (one homer) while walking one and fanning three in five innings for a loss. In his three minor-league rehab starts with Double-A Harrisburg (two starts) and Triple-A Rochester, Soroka allowed five earned runs while walking five and punching out 18 in 12 innings. Soroka is still young, but he has limited upside and has been injury-prone in his career.Source: The Washington Post - Andrew Golden
Washington Nationals manager Dave Martinez said that right-hander Derek Law Throwing On Flat Ground
Derek Law (forearm) threw from 60 feet on flat ground on Monday and felt good. Law has been dealing with a right-forearm injury since late in the 2024 season and has been on the injured list for the first month-plus of the 2025 campaign as a result. The 34-year-old veteran is starting to ramp up his throwing program, but he still has a ways to go before being activated from the 15-day injured list and will probably require a lengthy minor-league rehab assignment. Law might not make his season debut for the Nats until late-May or early June. Last year for the Nationals he was a solid contributor in a career-high 75 relief outings, posting a 2.60 ERA and 1.18 WHIP with one save, a career-high 76 strikeouts and 24 walks in 90 innings pitched.Source: The Washington Post - Andrew Golden

Nick Castellanos Homers In Three-Hit Game
Nick Castellanos went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, four RBI, and two runs scored in Tuesday's 8-4 win over the Rays. This was his third three-hit game of the season and his second straight multi-hit performance. He has been very good to begin 2025, producing a slash line of .288/.336/.455 with four home runs, 21 RBI, and 16 runs through his first 35 games. His 18.8% strikeout rate is a noticeable improvement, as he hasn't had a strikeout rate of less than 20 percent over a full season for the entirety of his career. The 33-year-old will continue to be a solid third-outfielder type for fantasy, putting up solid power numbers with good counting stats as part of an explosive Philadelphia lineup.Source: MLB.com
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Kyle Finnegan Locks Down 12th Save
Kyle Finnegan secured his 12th save of the season in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Guardians. He entered the game with a two-run lead and was able to shut the door after allowing one run on two singles and a sacrifice fly. It wasn't a flawless inning by any means, and Finnegan isn't the most dominant reliever with 15 strikeouts and seven walks through 14 ⅔ innings this season, but he is a saves machine. He is now tied for second in the major leagues in saves this season after posting 38 of them in 2024. As long as he continues to save games at this rate, he is a valuable asset for fantasy.Source: MLB.com
Washington Nationals relief pitcher James Wood Homers In Game 1 Of Doubleheader
James Wood launched a two-run home run and walked once in a 10-9 win over the Guardians in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader. The youngster is in the midst of a breakout season, as he is slashing .273/.380/.554 with 10 home runs, 23 RBI, 22 runs, and five stolen bases in 36 games. He has already surpassed his 2024 home run total of nine in 79 games and is over a third of the way to the 14 stolen bases he produced. He looks to be an all-around contributor at only 22 years old and could be a top-10 fantasy outfielder for years to come.Source: MLB.com
Washington Nationals outfielder Yandy Diaz Exits Early With Injury
Yandy Diaz (leg) left Tuesday's game in the sixth inning due to an apparent leg injury. He seemed to tweak something swinging at a pitch in the sixth inning, and left the game while gesturing toward his right leg. More details regarding the specifics of the injury should be available after the game. Diaz was enjoying a nice night at the plate, launching a two-run home run in the fourth inning that was his fifth of the season. UPDATE: Manager Kevin Cash said the team thinks Diaz is OK and will play on Wednesday. Diaz was pulled early because his right hip tightened up on him.Source: Marc Topkin
Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Gabriel Moreno Scratched From Lineup
Gabriel Moreno was scratched from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets, although it doesn't appear to be injury-related. It was reportedly a manager's decision, but more details may come out later after the game. Jose Herrera is starting behind the dish in his place. It could just be a decision to give Moreno an extra day off to clear his head, as he has struggled so far in 2025. He's batting just .233 with no home runs and three doubles on the season.Source: Arizona Diamondbacks
Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Rhett Lowder Sent On Rehab Assignment
Rhett Lowder (forearm) on a minor-league rehab assignment to the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. Lowder, the team's No. 2 prospect per MLB Pipeline, is being brought along slowly after he missed all of spring training due to a strained right forearm. The former seventh overall pick in 2023 out of Wake Forest made his big-league debut last year and looked great in six starts (30 2/3 innings), allowing only four earned runs and striking out 22. However, he also was a bit wild and walked 14. The 23-year-old will surely need a lengthy rehab assignment before he's removed from the injured list, and when he's ready, there's a chance that he could be sent back down to the minors for a little more seasoning. Remember, they brought him up at the end of last year only because their starting rotation was ravaged by injuries.Source: Cincinnati Reds

Max Scherzer To Face Live Hitters On Wednesday
Max Scherzer (thumb) played catch at Angel Stadium before the team's game against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday and plans to face live hitters on Wednesday, according to Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith. Scherzer continues to build up as his thumb feels better, but he said the bigger test will be how his thumb responds the day after he pitches in a game setting. The 40-year-old three-time Cy Young winner made just one start for the Blue Jays in the regular season before landing on the 15-day injured list with inflammation in his right thumb. He's had several setbacks along the way but is hoping that he can get over the hump when he resumes facing live hitters. The eight-time All-Star can still be useful in mixed fantasy leagues if he's healthy, but he's not as dominant as he once was and has been battling various ailments the last couple of years.Source: Sportsnet.ca - Ben Nicholson-Smith
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Jordan Westburg To Start Rehab Assignment This Week
Jordan Westburg (hamstring) is with Triple-A Norfolk and will work out with them for a couple days before starting a minor-league rehab assignment with them later this week, according to MASN's Roch Kubatko. Westburg is eligible to return from the 10-day injured list on Wednesday, but fantasy managers might have to wait until early next week or this weekend to get him back. With both Westburg and Ramon Urias (hamstring) on the shelf, the Orioles called up third base prospect Coby Mayo to see action at third base. Mayo struggled in his 17-game MLB debut a year ago and is hitless in his first six plate appearances since he was called up. Westburg should return to being the club's primary third baseman when he's activated, even though he's started slow by hitting .217/.265/.391 with four homers and six RBI in his first 92 at-bats before his injury.Source: MASN Sports - Roch Kubatko
Baltimore Orioles infielder Brandon Woodruff Making Another Rehab Start On Tuesday
Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) is making another minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Nashville against Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday night, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Todd Rosiak. Woodruff has looked good in his four rehab starts to this point with High-A Wisconsin (two starts) and Nashville (two starts), allowing six runs (five earned) on 15 hits while walking six and striking out 16 in 18 1/3 innings. The 32-year-old made it through 5 2/3 frames in his last outing last Wednesday, and if everything goes well on Tuesday night, he might need just one more minor-league outing before coming off the injured list to make his 2025 debut for the Brewers. Woodruff has been an ace in the past, but fantasy managers might want to temper expectations initially after he missed all of the 2024 campaign due to right-shoulder surgery.Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Todd Rosiak
