7 years agoThe Seattle Mariners placed catcher Mike Zunino (oblique) on the 10-day disabled list with a left oblique strain on Friday and recalled backstop David Freitas from the minors in a corresponding move. Zunino's injury occurred during a workout on Wednesday, and he was scratched from the lineup on Opening Day on Thursday. It's unknown how long he'll be out, but oblique injuries can linger, and it might be tougher for a power hitter like Zunino to recover from. Zunino doesn't hit for a high average, but he has plenty of power to spare. Expect Freitas and Mike Marjama to split time behind the dish in the meantime.
