Michael Wacha 2024 Player Outlook: Regression All But Certain In 2024
9 months agoKansas City Royals right-hander Michael Wacha had himself a fine season in the 2023 campaign but you can bet on regression this upcoming season. While the veteran tossed a 3.22 ERA across 24 starts a season ago, he also posted a 4.43 SIERA, which suggests his work was not nearly as good as his surface ERA may suggest. While he has long boasted excellent control by way of a career 7.6% BB%, he doesn't rack up many strikeouts, according to his 21% career K%, a figure he gently exceeded in the 2023 season with a 22.4% K%. He has pitched very well over the last two seasons but he simply does not generate many strikeouts. Add in the near-certain run-prevention regression and the 32-year-old is a risky investment at his 286.26 ADP.
