Mets Likely Out On Trevor Bauer
4 years agoThe New York Mets are unlikely to attempt to sign free-agent starting pitcher Trevor Bauer after Thursday's blockbuster trade that netted them shortstop Francisco Lindor and starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco. New York now has Jacob deGrom, Marcus Stroman, Noah Syndergaard, David Peterson, Steven Matz, Seth Lugo and Carrasco in the fold for their rotation. Bauer is now an unnecessary expenditure for a team that has other needs and that is now around $32 million away from the $210 million competitive balance tax threshold. The right-hander and 2020 National League Cy Young winner was already a secondary target for the Mets before they pulled off the trade for Lindor and Carrasco. The 29-year-old Bauer is reportedly seeking $36-40 million per season. Wherever he lands, he's a bonafide fantasy ace.
