2 years agoRight-hander Matt Harvey announced his retirement from professional baseball on his personal Instagram account on Friday. Harvey will hang up his cleats after spending nine years in the big leagues. The 34-year-old started off with heaps of promise in his right arm after being drafted seventh overall by the New York Mets out of North Carolina. He was an All-Star in his second MLB season in 2013 and spent the first five full seasons of his career in Queens. Injuries derailed his promising career, though, and he bounced around with four different teams in the last four seasons. Harvey last saw action in the big leagues in 2021 with the Baltimore Orioles, going 6-14 with a 6.27 ERA (4.60 FIP) and 1.54 WHIP in 28 starts (127 2/3 innings). He finishes his career with a 4.42 ERA (3.96 FIP), 1.29 WHIP and 21.2 percent strikeout rate in 966 1/3 innings pitched.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
