Marcelo Mayer Sitting Against a Left-Hander
Marcelo Mayer is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's contest against the visiting Los Angeles Angels with left-hander Yusei Kikuchi on the mound. Abraham Toro will make the start at the hot corner and will bat fifth against Kikuchi, who he has hit .125 against in just eight career at-bats. For now, the Red Sox are choosing to keep the former fourth overall pick in 2021 out of the starting lineup against southpaws early in his first taste of MLB. The team's No. 2 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, has gone 6-for-30 (.200) with two doubles, two runs, two walks and 10 strikeouts in his first eight big-league games for Boston. Against right-handers, he should continue to be the club's starting third baseman with Alex Bregman (quadriceps) on the injured list with no real timetable for a return. Toro will be a deep DFS sleeper in the five-hole on Tuesday.
