Luis Garcia Coming Up For The Nationals
3 years agoWashington Nationals infielder Luis Garcia was pulled in Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday night and will meet the Nationals in Philadelphia on Wednesday, eventually replacing shortstop Trea Turner, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday. Garcia played in 11 games with the Nats earlier this year and went 4-for-18 (.222) with a triple, two walks and four strikeouts. The 21-year-old left-handed hitter has just two homers and 16 RBI in 159 career major league plate appearances over the last two years, but he had been impressing at Rochester with a .298/.363/.596 slash line, a .959 OPS, 13 home runs and 25 RBI in 36 games in 2021. Garcia figures to see regular playing time in D.C. with Turner now out and Starlin Castro likely done for the season, making him an option in the short term in NL-only leagues.
