Josh Jung Goes To Rangers No. 8 Overall
6 years agoThe Texas Rangers stayed at home in the Lone Star State, selecting third baseman Josh Jung out of Texas Tech with the eighth overall pick in the 2019 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Monday. He was named the 2019 Big 12 Co-Player of the Year after posting a .332/.471/.609/1.080 slash line with 21 doubles, ranking 22nd in the country. He also ended up with 11 homers and 53 RBI for the Red Raiders. Early scouting reports have him as a good hitter with power potential, with defense the thing he must improve upon the most. The last time the Rangers selected a college hitter with their first pick was back in 2008 when they nabbed Justin Smoak out of South Carolina.
