Jordan Hicks Not Giving Up After Demotion to Bullpen
Jordan Hicks, who was recently demoted to a relief role, is ready to "turn the page" for now but isn't giving up on being a starter. Hicks made 20 starts in 2024 but was sent to the bullpen this year after posting a 6.55 ERA over his first nine starts for San Fran. "Yeah, I want to be a starting pitcher. That's always what I've wanted to do in the big leagues. It's not the time right now," Hicks said. The hard-throwing 28-year-old spent most of his five seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals as a reliever and has 33 saves, 53 holds, a 4.24 ERA and 392 strikeouts. Manager Bob Melvin pinpointed Hicks' sinker as a potential reason for his lack of success so far in 2025. He made his first relief appearance on Monday against the Royals and struggled with his control, throwing seven of 16 pitches for strikes and allowing an earned run. Hicks loses most of his fantasy appeal as a reliever.
