Jon Gray Scratched With Back Tightness
2 years agoTexas Rangers starting pitcher Jon Gray (back) was scratched from his Cactus League start on Friday against the San Francisco Giants with back tightness. The Rangers starter for Friday's spring game is now left-hander Taylor Hearn. We're still early enough in spring training that Gray may not be in danger of missing Opening Day, but it will also depend on how long it will be before he can make his second Cactus League start. Despite dealing with a handful of injuries in his first year in Texas in 2022, he produced a decent 3.96 ERA (3.80 FIP), 1.13 WHIP and 25.7 percent strikeout rate in 127 innings over 24 starts. Gray's back injury is a bit worrisome, but if he can stay healthier than he was last year, there could be some nice value attached to him in 2023.
