Jesse Winker To Have Neck Surgery
2 years agoSeattle Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto said that outfielder Jesse Winker (knee, neck) underwent surgery on his knee last week and is also scheduled to have surgery on his neck. Winker's 2022 season ended early right as the playoffs began in early October, and he was also apparently dealing with a knee injury that required him to go under the knife. The 29-year-old left-handed slugger was a first-time All-Star with the Cincinnati Reds in 2021, but he disappointed in his first year in Seattle by hitting just .219/.344/.344 with 14 home runs, 53 RBI and 51 runs scored in 547 plate appearances and 136 games. He should enter spring training in 2023 as the projected starter in left field, but he'll have to play much better to avoid becoming a platoon or bench option for the M's.
