Jesse Winker Slated for Rehab Assignment
Jesse Winker (oblique) is slated to begin a minor-league rehab assignment this weekend. Per DiComo, Winker will operate as DH by the end of the weekend. It's excellent news for the former Cincinnati Red, who's been shelved with an oblique strain since early May. Oblique injuries can be tricky, hence the long layoff, but the Mets could use Winker right now with their lineup slumping. Despite a mediocre .239/.321/.418 triple slash through 24 contests, he appeared to be heating up before his injury -- raising his average from .196 over a five-game stretch. The 30-year-old is eligible to return on Jul. 4 and could do so if he doesn't suffer any setbacks.
