Jeremy Pena Refining His Game In Winter Ball
4 years agoHouston Astros second baseman/shortstop Jeremy Pena, the team's No. 4 prospect per MLB Pipeline, was among the Dominican Republic Winter League leaders during the regular season when he finished second in hits (37), second in total bases (52), third in runs scored (18) and tied for third in stolen bases (seven). The former third-round pick in 2018 was 0-for-12 in the first half of the semifinal series in the playoffs but rebounded to go 5-for-14 with five runs scored in his next three games, including a two-run home run in Game 5. The 23-year-old batted just .235 with two homers in the postseason. Pena showed more strength and power in 2019 and could find an everyday role at the next level with his combination of speed. Is he the heir apparent to Jose Altuve?
