Jeremy Pena Goes On Injured List
3 years agoThe Houston Astros placed rookie shortstop Jeremy Pena (thumb) on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday with left thumb discomfort and recalled infielder/outfielder J.J. Matijevic from Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move. That escalated quickly. General manager James Click said that the "initial read" was that Pena's left thumb injury wasn't severe, but something obviously changed after he underwent more tests. Fantasy managers will now have to stash the 24-year-old in an IL spot. He's been great this year with a .277/.333/.471 slash line with nine home runs, 27 RBI and six stolen bases, so don't go dropping him in any leagues. Veteran Aledmys Diaz should see most of the starts at shortstop in Pena's absence, making him more attractive in deep mixed leagues in the short term.
