Jeremy Pena Could be Back on Friday
Jeremy Pena (ribs) will play shortstop in a minor-league rehab game with Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday and could come off the injured list to rejoin the Astros before Friday's series opener at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox, according to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com. Pena went 0-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored as the designated hitter for Sugar Land in his first rehab game on Tuesday. The Astros aren't expecting the 27-year-old to need many games in the minors before having him rejoin the big-league squad this weekend. Pena shouldn't be floating around on any waiver wires despite spending time on the 10-day IL. The Dominican infielder is having a career year for the Astros, slashing .322/.378/.489 with an .867 OPS, 11 homers, 40 RBI, 48 runs and 15 steals in 317 at-bats.
