Jed Lowrie Still Not Close To Playing In Games
6 years agoNew York Mets third baseman Jed Lowrie (knee, hamstring) is still not close to playing in rehab games as he rehabs a left knee capsule sprain and a left hamstring strain, according to manager Mickey Callaway. The 35-year-old suffered the knee injury in the first week of spring training and had a setback with his hamstring last month while at Triple-A Syracuse. A 2018 All-Star with Oakland, Lowrie hasn't played at all in 2019 after signing a two-year, $20 million deal in January. He is fielding ground balls and hitting in Florida, however. It doesn't sound as if the Mets expect him before the All-Star break in July. Lowrie will need to prove to owners in mixed leagues that he's worth a pickup whenever he makes his season debut. Todd Frazier has benefitted by Lowrie's continued absence and has hit much better than he did at the beginning of the season.
