Jay Groome, Others Suspended A Year For Betting
6 months agoSan Diego Padres pitcher Jay Groome, Oakland Athletics pitcher Michael Kelly, Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Jose Rodriguez and Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Andrew Saalfrank were all suspended by Major League Baseball for one full year on Tuesday for violating the league's policy on sports betting. Groome made 24 bets on the Boston Red Sox's big-league club while he was at High-A Greenville. The 25-year-old is currently on the seven-day injured list at Triple-A El Paso in the Padres' organization. Kelly made bets on MLB games when he was with the Astros' Triple-A affiliate at Sugar Land in 2021. Rodriguez bet over $700 when he was at the White Sox's Double-A affiliate in Birmingham. Saalfrank bet on 28 big-league games when he was playing in the minor leagues for the D-backs.
