The Carolina Hurricanes didn’t make it easy on themselves but the club topped the New York Rangers by a score of 3-2 during the first game of the Stanley Cup Qualifying Series. In total, 18 penalties were handed out against the two teams in a very undisciplined game. Sebastian Aho led the offense for Carolina with a goal and an assist. He also paced the team during the regular season in both goals (38) and points (66) in 68 games played. Jaccob Slavin chipped in two points from the blue line. Martin Necas, who had been battling health issues prior to the series, chipped in a goal. Goalie Petr Mrazek stopped 24 of 26 shots for the win. Rangers veteran goalie Henrik Lundqvist was busy and stopped 34 of 37 shots. Marc Staal and Mika Zibanejad had goals in the losing effort.--Marc Hulet - RotoBaller
