Henry Davis To Work At Catcher Next Spring
1 year agoPittsburgh Pirates outfielder Henry Davis will join Endy Rodriguez and Jason Delay as a catcher for spring training next year, according to general manager Ben Cherington. Davis, the No. 1 overall pick in 2021, was promoted to the big leagues on June 19 as a right fielder because they believed his bat could help. But Cherington said the Pirates were "very clear" in an exit interview with Davis that he is going to report to spring training next year as a catcher. The 24-year-old is going to need to improve defensively, but it's a move that will surely boost his fantasy appeal going into Year 2 in the majors. In his first 62 games with the Bucs, Davis struggled at the plate with a .213/.302/.351 slash line with seven homers, 10 doubles, 24 RBI, three stolen bases and 27 runs scored in 255 plate appearances.
