Good News For Casey Mize
6 years agoThe Detroit Tigers are optimistic that starting pitching prospect Casey Mize (shoulder) wasn't seriously injured on Thursday after they reviewed the results of his MRI exam on Friday. Mize, the No. 3 overall prospect in baseball, had reduced velocity in his outing with Double-A Erie on Thursday and was removed from his start early with right shoulder inflammation. The first overall pick last year will go on the injured list in the minors, but it looks like he dodged a bullet for something much more serious. In 13 starts with Erie and High-A Lakeland, Mize has a ridiculous 0.92 ERA, 0.69 WHIP, 12 walks and 75 strikeouts in 78 innings. He should remain stashed in most leagues and could see time in Detroit's rotation this year, although this injury might pump the brakes on that.
