George Springer Back In Leadoff Spot
1 year agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer is starting in right field and serving as the leadoff hitter on Tuesday against the visiting Washington Nationals and left-hander MacKenzie Gore. Manager John Schneider said he's likely going to use Springer as the leadoff hitter for the rest of the year after he handled cleanup duties in the last month. Whit Merrifield has been moved to the five-spot in the Toronto lineup. The 33-year-old Springer has hit only .256 (100-for-391) out of the leadoff spot this year with 13 home runs, 41 RBI, 15 stolen bases and 56 runs scored, but he'll have a bit more fantasy upside in the top spot the rest of the way. He's hit .302 (26-for-86) with four home runs, six doubles, 13 RBI, six steals and 15 runs in 23 starts in the month of August to get the bump back up to leadoff.
