Evan Phillips 2023 Fantasy Outlook: Attractive Save Speculation After Breakout Year
2 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Evan Phillips was downright nasty last year in his first full season with the team, pitching to a career-best 1.14 ERA (1.94 FIP), 0.76 WHIP, two saves, 19 holds, 15 walks and a career-high 77 strikeouts in 63 relief innings. The 28-year-old right-hander will no doubt be back to a high-leverage role in LA's bullpen in 2023, but it remains to be seen how many save chances he'll get in a closer committee that's also expected to include Daniel Hudson, Alex Vesia and Brusdar Graterol. Phillips is worth speculating on for saves late in drafts, and either way he should be useful in holds formats. However, it will probably be difficult to replicate the full dominance he had in 2022 after never coming anywhere close to those numbers in his previous four MLB seasons.
