Evan Carter Activated and Starting Against Rays
Evan Carter (quadriceps) from the 10-day injured list. Catcher Tucker Barnhart, who was designated for assignment on Sunday, elected free agency. Carter is starting in center field on Tuesday and is hitting eighth against Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Drew Rasmussen. After three minor-league rehab games with Triple-A Round Rock, Carter is returning from a Grade 2 quadriceps strain that has kept him out since May 16. The 22-year-old former second-round pick in 2020 burst onto the scene late in 2023 and hit .306 (19-for-62) with five homers and 12 RBI in 23 regular-season games before helping the Rangers win the World Series that fall. He played in just 45 games last year, though, due to injuries and had gone 6-for-33 (.182) with a homer and three RBI before his quad injury. Carter should at least be in the strong side of a platoon in center for Texas.
